Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
September 19-25:- Hetalia-Axis Powers volume 1 Tokyopop (seinen)
- Maximum Ride volume 3 Yen Press (OEL)
- Bleach volume 32 VIZ (shonen)
- Alice in the Country of Hearts volume 4 Tokyopop (shojo)
- Naruto volume 48 VIZ (shonen)
- Dogs: Bullets and Carnage volume 4 VIZ (seinen)
- Bakuman. volume 1 VIZ (shonen)
- Shakugan no Shana volume 6 VIZ (shonen)
- Kuroshitsuji volume 2 Yen Press (shonen)
- Rosario + Vampire season II volume 2 VIZ (shonen)
Last week was basically shonen hell, with VIZ Shonen Jump titles dominating the list. Hetalia taking the top spot in it's first week is heartening. Even if not my taste it is nice seeing something different sell well. Dogs becoming a chart fixture is also nice to see.
Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
I'm amused that Hetalia is placed under "seinen". :XD Old news is old, but I'm really happy to see that Bakuman has been licensed.
As a whole, it's definitely interesting to see the difference between Japanese and Western tastes.
Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
lol. There was a mistaken report, a while back, that a print version would be serialized in Comic Birz, which I found quite amusing. Considering how little demographic has to do with content it would not have been surprising if true. Technically it's a webcomic and demographic doesn't apply.
Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
Ah, right! Hetalia originated as a webcomic.
My reaction rate is slow so the fact that it got licensed in the first place now comes as a shock to me. LOL
Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
The book store I work at sold out of it in a week too. That doesn't happen that often.

Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
October 16-22:- Tenjo Tenge volume 2(VIZ)
- Black Jack volume 16 (Vertical)
- Afterschool Charisma volume 4 (VIZ)
- Sailor Moon volume 1 (Kodansha)
- Vampire Knight volume 13 (VIZ)
- Gon volume 2 (Kodansha)
- Kingyo Used Books volume 4 (VIZ)
- Code Name Sailor V volume 1 (Kodansha)
- Blue Exorcist volume 4 (VIZ)
The New York Times charts are usually really boring, dominated by whatever Shounen Jump manga was most recently released. The last two weeks have been very interesting though, especially this week. Suddenly the charts are dominated by classics, seinen, and classic seinen. Nice to see a wider range of manga charting this week.
Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers
I agree. Seeing Black Jack, Gon, and Kingyo Used Books on the list is really refreshing. It makes me more hopeful for the industry that people's tastes seem to be broadening.
