I think you're right about that.
I'm doing my part to try and help the fanbase expand. I've been introducing my friends to D.Gray-man over the past couple of weeks...but they are being cruel because they are not giving in easily. Lol. I expect people to start giving in soon though, because I won't stop.

they were laughing away at the show, expecially episode 2's situation with the gatekeeper :)
i think its the name "d.gray man" which puts people off, i know that it did to me, that's why i was pretty late in knowing this series :)

I've started to use the manga to persuade too. I'm starting to single out juicy parts that people might find intriuging. It will help me on this challenge.
As for me first getting into D.Gray-man, I too thought the name was quite wierd, but I started following it from the first anime episode. It was like a birthday present to me, as the anime was first aired on my birthday, 3rd October. Hehe.

I started watching, reading DGM when I saw the name of the first episode as torrent under the torrent-data of Death Note. I just downloaded it to take a first look and then I was like "Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, how cool *_*." from the very first beginning. The opening totally made my day. Then I began to read through the Manga quickly. I guess three days for 93 chapters, followed by buying the Manga here in Germany.
I also influenced some of my friends with DGM. I just told them about it and my obsession and showed them some cool pics and the opening. I guess I made at least 2 people being a fan of DGM and two others to know the basics cause I just don't stop talking about it XD.
