It has a pretty big fanbase - it got first place at a poll asking about "Your favourite show of the season" and the net is flooding with fanpics. I doubt the genre has much to do with it, Durarara!! was pretty popular too and still has no second season (I want Durarara!! S2 /=). It's up to the animation studio and if they think it will bring them a lot of money. If there's a higher-up who's a big fan of the series I guess that helps too :p too much factors to put it down to the genre.

Sinbad was just awesome, and I like that he's more of a grey character too.

Everyone wants a continuation, but after that scandal with Haruhi's VA people's hopes were crushed. :scry
