It seems like those giants are being forced to fight.
The americans have a functioning black sphere but they aren't transfering everybody at once for some reason...meanwhile there is a lone guy fighting a giant only with a gantz sword, everybody else is just watching. There are some corpses around, meaning they have been doing this for a while.
I don't know if they are fighting just for fun or they won't let you leave unless you beat an alien in a duel first.

man..i love this manga
it has many lolwut moments ocassionally..or maybe too much(duh! what's the point of introducing god-like alien...i don't even...)
However, it has many superiorly well-made drawing,action, crazy(but realism?) events and such. I don't understand the translation but i think it's quite obvious that the gaint and gantzer aren't gang-fighting aggressively for life but rather challenging each other,1on1,as if they are playing a game, lol...
EDIT: The amercian? gantzers force them to line up for fight,you win,you go home, or you lose,you die. I think the double-sword guy is going to die,to show how strong that gaint is.
EDIT: i am quite confident about my guess.Now notice the ordering on page 10 and 17, Ivan Gonde is on far back, maybe the last one, which means if you kill him, the game ends. Kaze is not gonna lose the black dude,he's just a random guy(if he's the last one) and he's going to be a good father with Mary, the nerd chickens out on far back,i guess.
On page 17, you can see the fist guy is in front of the double-sword guy, the fist guy is a reliable person,strong,but still...not much credit is given,so he's not gonna die. That's why i think the fist guy will win the one in front of Ivan,and survive. The real sh*t happens on the double-sword guy, he's almost the strongest and has enough credit,that's why he's goona die,you know,it's GANTZ.
And you can see how it fits the picture perfectly if he dies,one strong dude has to die quickly to show how strong Ivan is,there's really no one but him fits the position perfectly,he's a sword player you know. Then,Katou will fight Ivan,i don't know how it will end but i think it's the most interesting setting you can see against Ivan.
