If he's starting a new serialization when OP is still running, I'd reject such idea. I admit that Oda is a great story teller, but I'm afraid that another serialization would split his focus on One Piece. I don't mind if it's just a mini-series like 5-10 chapters or one-shot, but a long running series while OP still on going is unnecessary, IMHO.
I'd support him if he's starting another series after One Piece (though unlikely), but I hope that his dream making a mecha manga would come into realization.
So you guys don't want him to have Double Serialization just like what Eiji Nizuuma (Bakuman) had.
(Crow and +Natural)
Though I think Eiji's character was based from Oda.
I like the idea of him creating a short manga series. about 100 chapters will do.
The possibility of him doing another series is very low I think
By the way
His friends did two series!
(Oda, Shimabukuro and Togashi are friends Source: Wikipedia)
Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter)
Spoiler show
Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi and Toriko)
Spoiler show
His two friends made a more successful manga from their first one.
I wonder if Oda will do it just to be the same with his friends :sweat
Short and 100 chapters aren't to be put into the same sentence, that's more than most manga get. And a bigger hit than OP, I highly doubt any manga in the next two decades will sell as much as this series does. And two simultaneously series? A desaster for Oda, who always takes longer than he imagined it to be, who only draws character and moving objects already, who has a family and kids and the biggest japanese manga franchise ever. Also we have enough breaks already.^^
Unlike those two follow up series, which could be those mangaka's life works, OP, Oda's first series will undoubtedly be his biggest project ever. It's also longer than each of those two series combined already. hehe
Doubt Oda would make any manga after OP actually, seems to be his one and only masterpiece, and I have difficulties imagining him making something better than OP
I think in the end, he'll just stick with OP, in the same fashion as Miura and Berserk (although Miura is doing all the job and takes more time than Oda)
10 years and we barely arrived at half the story, do you know what does that mean ? One Piece has just begun its second half, and certainly the most epic one
@X3D2YFaust, not to seem nitpicking or something but; HxH is togashi's 4th serialized manga. he had 1 series before hakushou and level e after that. and togashi is more like king in jump. they give him leaves and put his manga on hiatus for so long. i am not so sure they would do it for any1 else. and shimabukuro didnt end takeshi because of low sales or bad toc rating he got arrested for enjo kousai. they canceled cause of the bad PR.
One Piece is not only a manga at this point, it is Oda´s legacy, his mark on the history of fiction, even if manga outside of Japan is not that popular (if you ignore other Asian countries like China, Taiwan or Korea). Personally, i would prefer it staying unique and as Oda´s only work because a new series could always sully that legacy but that is obviously a pessimistic view and pretty much ignores what Oda himself desires.
As far as I know He wanted to do some Mecha-like manga after One Piece. Which is fantastic.
One Piece covers so many kinds of worlds though...I think thats why Oda wants to retire after OP. I mean it'll go on for a very long time, and I wouldn't be ready for another manga as long as One Piece from Oda for awhile, and it will already take ages for OP to end. Oda wanted to write a robot manga, but now he doesn't because robots are incorporated into One Piece. Think of how many different ideas and worlds are in One Piece now, by the time it's over, will there really be anything original left for Oda to do? He's already using his robot story ideas.
You can be tired for a season, but if it's your passion you keep doing it. I imagine Oda will make something after One Piece. If not robots, something else.
Yeah if he wants to do something, he will, just like many other "big" mangaka did in the last six decades. Having Pacifista or Franky in the series doesn't decrease the potential for a robot themed manga in the least. It would be reverse to Toriyamas oder. Look at Tezuka, he did improve and work on multiple series at the same time until the day he died. Or other mangaka working for decades on a series, maintaining a good quality throughout the years.
I'd rather him finish One Piece first. Still a lot of great stuff ahead in this manga. But sure after One Piece is done I wouldn't mind seeing another story from my man. I wonder if he could do something steampunk.
Since no reference has been given, I quote a note of wikia on Eiichiro Oda's future:
Quote:
Oda stated in an interview that he wanted to create a robot manga after he finished One Piece. Later, however, he stated that after he finishes One Piece, he would take the same path Toriyama did and create short-story manga.
hmm well i dont think anyone wants one piece to end any time soon
but eventually it will end, and when it does YES i would love to see another series
Actually didn't care about him making another series ( and I'm knda surprprise there are some people who actually care).
Putting a great and worthy ending to OP must be his top prioritiy beyond anything else (I mean ANYTHING else)
