Caribou's Cover story purpose
Is Caribou's cover story going anywhere? Because in the last issues, we are still with the old lady and stuff, that it seems a bit of stretching. But I bet Oda is doing it on purpose, so that the end of his story would connect with some special event in the main story.
What we know: Caribou is on an island that belongs to Kaidou (and where Drake fought his underling), and casually the next arc is related to this particular Yonkou.
And we can find further references in this page, where IMO he's talking either about Doflamingo (connected to Kaidou) or (less possible) Kaidou itself.
So, what do you people think about it? Is gonna be related (and how) or not?
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
i am loving it, he is a good comedy relief "villian" who is trying so hard to be a bad guy but just fails miserably
little things like this is why i love oda as a mangaka
the purpose....i hope it is building up to something, i honestly do
just for caribou to fail again :^_^
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
You already pointed in the first post the whole point of this ministory, namely, the secret of Shirahoshi being one of the ancient weapons, listened by Caribou here. Since the ancient weapons are going to have a major role in a future arc, I think that secret known by caribou, is going to play a key role in that future arc.
But it's possible that in the mini-story we won't see who is the guy Caribou is planning to tell that secret. That part possibly will be shown in the central story of some future chapter. The mini-story would serve well to this purpose, if Caribuo is saved from the Fishman Island goverment, thing that already happened. The rest is fun and good storiy to read.
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
Kind of interesting that all this time Caribou has been on one of Kaido's islands, and it turns out Law and Luffy are targeting Kaido. I wonder if Caribou will have a role in this saga. It is also possible he could run into Drake, who also had visited that island.
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
I think if you look at how fast Oda started his Mini story after Fishman Island, it's an good indication that Caribou is going to be important soon in the main story. IMO. :-)
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
He is going to end up being a good guy, just like all the other cover arc stories
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
Neither did Buggy turn into a good guy, nor did Wapol, nor Enel, nor did Lucci and the former CP9 agents...

Yeah, given that Kaido is approaching very fast in the main story, that's even more evidence to think that Caribou could be coming in a same arc of Kaido or Drake as Kaiten suggests, and that could be soon. And that could happen even if neither of them are the guy who Caribou is trying to contact. Because, in the ministory, he arrives that island accidentally.
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
I'm not sure what Caribou is up to, but he's dressed like Crocodile and that's bothering me, I hope someone cuts his hand off soon :p
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
I think he's gonna be a pawn in all of this . As some people mentioned already , Caribou is gonna use his knowledge about Poseidon to make a deal with the big players of NW , either Big Mom or Kaidou .
I mean i don't think Oda is drawing him for no purpose at all . This is a hint he's giving us IMO :)

you are right
he turned to be the best guy :hip
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
I wonder who this Captain Gable is that the soldiers mistake Caribou for. The army itself strike me as guerilla soldiers. Hmm, wonder why?
But I don't think we've seen this symbol before in the series (correct me if I'm wrong) so are these some stand-alone revolutionaries different from Dragon's? Maybe trying to overthrow Kaidou's reign over the island? Ah, what's the use in speculating too much...
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
As everyone already said, the fact that he knows the secret of Shirahoshi, makes him an important character for the progressing of the story.
And besides, I laugh every time I see him in the cover stories. XD
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
uhm,I thought he would ahve revealed kaido about shiraoshi being actually poseidon. but kaido is already being involved so: either kaido won't appear until dd's defeat, or caribo won't meet him at all.
Re: Caribou's Cover story purpose
I think the cover story will end with Caribou telling someone important about Shirahosi's secret.
