[Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shounen Magazine (Kodansha)

    Way too soon.
  2. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Kaiten, you seem to be seriously exaggerating his usage of the word "survive". It's just meaning surviving several cancellation rounds, not becoming the next One Piece.
    Kurogane kept "surviving"...
  3. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

It won't survive for long, but it's looking like it will at least see its one year anniversary.
  4. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

No, most of the time there are 19.

Damn, Tokyo Wonder Boys hasn't even been ranked yet and it's dead...
  5. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Wasn't last week the double issue?
  6. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

So no issue this week right?
  7. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Maybe because Jump didn't people to know the various series's ranks so soon due to the page numbers. It adds an element of surprise every week.
  8. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Maybe Sosei no Onmyoji is a possibility? It wouldn't take very long for them to catch up at all.
  9. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I wasn't talking about Amano. As bad of a writer as she is, I love her art.
    I was talking about Takamagahara.
  10. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

No it didn't. The art was incredibly rough and shoddy.
  11. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I liked Mutou Black (and I hate pretty much everything).
Yes, it was clearly HEAVILY inspired by Kenshin. But it really really gorgeous art and panelwork.

  12. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I remember reading rumors that Takamagahara was just a poorly executed parody, but I can't be sure. I think it might have just been so bad that it seemed like it had to be a parody to explain it.
  13. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Hungry Joker was indeed bad, but the worst manga ever serialized in Jump I'd have to say is Takamagahara.
  14. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Eh... While Hungry Joker was honestly pretty terrible from a writing standpoint, I did enjoy his art and panel-work. I just hope that when it comes time for him to have another serialization he has...
  15. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

It's going to get the Shaman King treatment eventually. I'm sure of it.
  16. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Well Toriko's rank was determined before the anime ended.
Plus, I don't think it's anime has too much effect on its ranking due to how long it's been around now.
  17. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

ILLEGAL RARE'S RANKING AND GETTING A COLOR PAGE! I'M SO HAPPY!
Hopefully iShoujo raises up as well though. It'd be cool if we got two successes from this new round.

[Mag Talk] Re: Jump SQ (Shueisha)

Well Madhouse is almost done with HxH, it might be cool for them to do a RuroKen remake afterwards.

[Complete] Re: Gamaran by NAKAMARU Yousuke

Of course not. It was a cancelled series that wasn't ever that popular to begin with.
He'll probably come back with another series sometime down the road, but Gamaran is done with.

Sticky: [Ongoing] Re: Illegal Rare by Shiibashi Hiroshi

There's still hope for it. Kuroko no Basuke and Sket Dance also had less than stellar first rankings.
  22. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Loving the Beelzebub, and Koi no Cupid covers.
Also, for such a mediocre series, Soul Catcher(S) always does have really neat looking covers.
World Trigger's looks a bit more interesting this time...
  23. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Eh, Illegal Rare still might be able to rise. After all, this is just the ranking of the first chapter.
I sure hope Stealth Symphony doesn't do better though, it's goddamn mediocre.
  24. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Welp... So much for hoping Illegal Rare would be a huge success...
But Nisekoi even below Soul Catcher(S)? Damn, you'd expect the anime would help its ratings get better, not continually worse.
    ...
  25. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Eh, both Medaka Box and Beelzebub lasted several years and both got animes. I'd consider that a success.
I can see how the success can be debated though.
  26. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I clearly labeled Death Note as an exception in my post.

  27. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure where to put them.
I think PSI is popular enough to last 3+ years though, despite it's recent minor drop in the rankings.
Isobe seems to a pretty big success so far though.
  28. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

  29. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Dragon Ball Z didn't get popular in the US until it aired on Toonami.
Not sure about Sailor Moon though.
  30. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Well in the Dragon Ball anime (not counting entirely filler arcs), the Sayian/Freiza section of the anime took up 107 episodes, and in Kai it only took up 52 episodes.
    In the original the...

    [Anime] Re: Yowamushi Pedal

I know it's a very long arc and the anime likely won't be able to complete it with this season alone, but they've adapted 82 chapters in only 24 episodes which is a lot.
  32. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

    Lolno.
The industry is on an upswing, but anime is not as popular as it was to CASUAL audiences as it was back when the original Toonami was airing.
  33. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I honestly think that will make it harder for a western live-action Death Note film to succeed. Anime over here to those outside of the fandom is seen by most as just a cartoon, and it's difficult to...
  34. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Just because your country has it worse, doesn't mean that America doesn't also have it bad.
Anime used to be huge over here back when Toonami was big. Now it's just not
  35. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I highly doubt it. Anime is nowhere near as popular as it was back when the Death Note adaptation was really being talked about. Not to mention the failure of Dragon Ball Evolution and The Last...

  37. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

So I just got the first four English language volumes of Magi in the mail and it has a lot of neat little extras. One of which is some messages from Ohtaka talking about how she became a mangaka. One...
  38. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Buddy, did I ever use the word "unpopular"?
  39. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

In casual anime fan circles? By far from what I've seen.

---------- Post added at 04:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:59 PM ----------

Eh, that's a good explanation for it I guess.
  40. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Okay, but Illegal Rare is by a popular mangaka whose previous series is much more well known than Narita's works in America.
And the darkness of the series is not what I'm trying to argue, somebody...
  41. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

    ...As is Stealth Symphony.
Not to mention, Illegal Rare isn't even all that dark. I know a lot of us thought it would be based on just the small amount of images we saw before its serialization, but...
  42. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

So...? Doesn't change the fact that it's a lot darker than most WSJ series so I don't think it's a good enough reason for why they didn't up Illegal Rare.
  43. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

I've hardly seen any anti-Illegal Rare sentiment either.

  45. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

    What wait?
Bleach and Naruto aren't old fashioned at all. They don't really feel different in structure at all to newer series like Toriko or Fairy Tail.
Also, I think it's entirely untrue that...
  46. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk

    [Anime] Re: Yowamushi Pedal

So with the current anime pacing, how many more episodes will it probably take to reach the end of the inter-high arc?
The anime is apparently going to have 38 episodes.
  48. [Mag Talk] Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk

It's more than just the sport dude. It's the writing. A good writer is able to make typical tropes seem fresh and interesting. Take Nanatsu no Taizai and Yowamushi Pedal for example; both are...
