頑張んなきゃ is short for 頑張らなければならない i.e. "I have to do my best".
俺ももっと頑張んなきゃって思う could be translated as "It makes me feel I have to try harder.
The word here is 頑張る(ateji) 【がんばる】 (v5r,vi) (1) to...

Has her nose been stepped on or injured anyway? What about his? "Hana" also means "nose", you see.

At least in the learning stages, try to clean without depending on filters. Learning to use Photoshop tools properly will give you more mileage than just smashing everything with the filter hammer....

I'm not an expert cleaner by any means, but that clean is so blurry and messy, I don't know what to say. FANtomCore, the truth is that "Trying to maintain full details" and "Using Topaz Denoise" are...

You can get a subscription to it from Fujisan: http://www.fujisan.com/control/category/~category_id=1799?CURRENT_CATALOG_ID=magazine
You're probably out of luck for older issues, though.

The blacks are black and the whites are white, but you're either using Topaz DeNoise or NeatImage or some other denoiser, and that's messing with your greys. The clean looks pale and washed out...

Blurry and messy. Even for a first attempt this is no good.
1. Clean it without using filters. They almost never help.
2. Level properly.
3. Burn the blacks if necessary.
4. Clean out the...

If it's the end of the sentence, I'd put question marks instead of ellipses. They're overused in some series and can often be translated away. If it's connected to a sentence in the next bubble, I'd...

An easy way to shut the fans up would've been to ask them to put their money where their mouths were. Next time put up a donate button and tell them you'll continue the series if you get $200 in...

Muuuuuch better. You can see the difference too, can't you?
November 01, 2010 11:39 PM
Not bad at all. The frame lines look a bit sharp and jagged, but I guess that's better than soft and blurry. My only question is, what did you do with the grays? I only saw one overfiltered gray on...

Thanks for your trouble.
I liked the inverted colours version best, though. The final black-and-white is a little too blurry, it needs cleaner, sharper lines and a bit of redrawing.

Yup, that's Chinese all right.
October 10, 2010 06:32 PM
Wait, that's not possible. GTO Shonan always comes with furigana, I've never seen it without. Are you sure you didn't download a Chinese version by accident?

Join me in spreading the word. Those filters ruin everything! =_=

You get a blurry mess with magazine raws too. The only reason people think this is acceptable (it's not) is because magazine raws are usually pretty hideous to begin with.

So much dirt left over, and that grey texture on the guy's face was just fine. What did you do to it to turn it into that weird plaid-like thing?
More manual cleaning, less automatic cleaning....

Super-tiny text from compression is something for the fans to worry about. If they care enough to read the "real thing", they can follow up to your site.
September 23, 2010 05:40 PM
Try cleaning it without using Topaz and see what you get. Just for fun.
September 16, 2010 04:42 PM
Personally I don't try to do too much to magazine raws. They're supposed to look rough, if you want tankoubon quality, buy the tankoubon. But I digress.
Level a little more, and go in manually...

The grays! What have you done to the grays?!
I'd like to say something positive, but I'm very much against the use of Topaz and other "brute force" filters. I think they produce a messy, blurry,...

You sharpened it and used filters, that's what you used wrong. The raw is tiny, but clean and sharp enough that it will look much better with ordinary levelling and cropping, maybe a little...

Instead of zooming in on the image, I find it easier to use the Wand tool to select areas that aren't black, then zoom in and go over those with the burn tool. Same with the whites. That was back...

Euh, why not? If you're translating for the typesetter to edit, whatever you can do to make his/her work easier is worth it. That said, if I ever worked with an editor I'd prefer one who knew at...

Hmm, if it's a fairly well-known manga the Japanese wiki of it will usually have the names of the main characters, in kanji and in hiragana, and then you can romanize from there.
