Je te comprends Beam. Le français est une langue que je trouve assez difficile aussi mais je suis Haitien and je parle le français depuis que j'ai un an. Si tu as des questions, je serai content de t'aider.
bof j'ai pas vraiment de question pis moi aussi je parle le francais depuis que je peu parler
Moi je suis fran
Ce ne serait pas un exercice valable aussi bien pour les francais apprenant l'anglais que les anglophones apprennant le francais ?
That's funny, this forum doesn't like french characters.. er... like the accents... maybe we should write accents with the HTML code like é... tss tss, what a lazy forum !
I wonder whatever happened to MaggeuS, he just disappeared after a while here... ah well. Anybody want to tell us a few more French words that they think would be good for us to know?
Well, I'm not a teacher, and the fact is : French is really horrible to learn XD Be careful...
Je tiens à signaler aux petits malins qui ont posté plus haut qu'il existe encore des français sachant maitriser la grammaire française, ne prennez pas vos cas pour une généralité.
Well, I will tell you the names of some countries in french, it could be useful...
United States of America = (Les) Etats Unis d'Amérique (don't forget that in french that's ALWAYS in the plural...)
Spain = Espagne
Germany = Allemagne
England = Angleterre (well, a lot of frenchies confuse England with Great Britain... But there is also Ireland (Irlande), Scotland (Ecosse) and Wales (Pays de Galles... is that all ?)
Russia = Russie
Austria = Autriche
etc... (i'm too lazy now XD)
Ah, I wanted to tell something... When in english you say
"Thank you !"
"You're welcome !"
We say :
- Merci !
- De rien !
Not the same at all XD Like your "atishoo" for our "atchoum"...
About sounds :
bark ! bark ! --> ouaf ! ouaf ! (even dogs have an accent XD)
cock-a-doodle-do ! --> cocorico ! (I never hard a cockerel (=coq) make a sound like that... cock a doodle doo... XD)
Well, i suppose there is other sounds but I don't know them XD
J'espère qu'au moins je vous aurai amusé, en attendant le retour d'un professeur de français plus doué que moi ^^
French is not that difficult, sure if you compare it to english; it's much more complex but for me german grammar is much more hard, in french there's many rules but few irregular things and it's the opposite for the german, not that many rules but damn there are so much things that you HAVE to learn by HEART (the pronouns die der das, the weak/strong verbs...)

Je déterre un vieux sujet ^^
Je suis française alors si je peux aider ou vous renseigner, ça sera avec grand plaisir.
I unearth an old topic ^^
I'm French then if I can help or inform, that will be with great pleasure.

I use Live Mocha on occasion. It's a pretty good site that teaches you different languages through step-by-step modules. You just sign up there and it'll keep track of your progress for you.
I used this textbook French For Reading Knowledge by Palmeri/Milligan. Maybe you'll find it easier than jumping straight into spoken French.
I think this works for all languages.
Once you get the vocabulary and grammar down, the best way to truly learn it is to listen to music. I learn so much by just listening to music videos with lyrics below the screen.
total immersion is the way to learn a language, if you can do everything you enjoy doing english in french all the time then you should be successful
Start to learn the basic grammar and vocabulary, textbooks would be the best to start. Then as joe_bevis said, do everything you like in french.
In my case, I learnt english (since I'm french ^^) by reading mangas/watching movies/listenning to music.
If you have any question just ask me
