code geass was one of the 2 most kick ass anime of last year imo!
the other one was higurashi no naku koro ni hell it had even some of the most disturbing scenes i've ever seen in a anime and the second season just started!(my ava is from higurashi and it was one off those scenes!)

How come no one's mentioned Beyond the Terra? Fantastic sci fi, there's a lot of suspense. Just don't expect every episode to fly by. The beginning is very fast, slows down a bit in the middle. But very it focuses deeply on the characterization, making it a very compelling story IMO.

edit - i should mention the series has been licensed, so i think 1-13 is done but you'll have to look a little harder to find it. 14+ has been picked up by some independent fansubber...i wouldn't know though, i just watch the raws :P

Claymore, Claymore and Claymore once more. And also Darket than black and Deathnote. But Claymore is the best.

Darker Than Black and Baccano!, without a doubt. DTB ends in only a few weeks, but both are very unique. And the characters are wonderful. *__*

    Re: Best newish anime

They are not very newish, since they have been airing for a couple of weeks now, but they are still newish enough to fit the criteria that allows for them to be posted in this thread :
Criteria: Under 26 episodes or that just reached that mark or ended at the mark within the past few months.

    1) Giant Killing: This anime has definitely become my favorite sports anime. This series is so good that it's very painful to have to wait a whole week to watch a new episode. I really recommend it to people that like sports (especially soccer/football), seinen and underdog stories.

    2) Shiki: Vampires done right. If you like vampires and stories that are mysterious and suspenseful then this is the series for you. In addition, the OST of this series is absolutely incredible!

    3) Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu (The Legend of the Legendary Heroes): It took some time (a couple of eps) for this series to get momentum and to define itself as a series (because after watching that first episode nobody really knew what to expect) but once it did, it has only gotten better with each episode.

    Re: Best newish anime

Yes, I’m 100% biased but I have been enjoying watching Brave 10 so much that I consider it one of the best new anime series. The story is interesting, the action and the fights are great, and the interactions between the characters are cool as well.

Another anime that I think has a lot of potential is Area no Kishi, episode 3 was great! I haven’t watched episode 4 yet but I have a feeling it will be another good episode.
Thank you so much for my cute avy GenjiChan and for my awesome sig, Reverzer0!

    Re: Best newish anime

Using this thread to promote Natsuyuki Rendezvous. In the current season which was and still is a lackluster to me, it's one of the very few series I really enjoy. It has an interesting premise (boy falls in love with an older woman which dead husband still hangs around as a ghost) and the romance/conflicts are done well. As funny as the premise may sound it definitely isn't - it has it's funny moments but I would describe it as a drama. A very well done drama.
