Since I'll be posting my School of Water Business translations in the *soon to be famous* seinen manga forum I figured it's about time I did one of these.
I'm Iwanin... er... uhm... questions?
Anyway, be sure to check out the new "adult manga" forum, which is not actually about porno manga, just manga geared towards a more (im)mature audience. But only if you're 18 or older.
And also, all those interested in downloading the fine series "School of Water Business", head on down to tamascans' homepage ( www.tamascans.net ) and download it. Now. It's an order.
P.S. I'll also answer any questions on how to curse in (Mexican) Spanish.
P.P.S. No, Gundam is not seinen manga.
P.P.P.S. Yes, you can ask me anything you want (though I'm not sure why you'd want to...), but I can also refuse to answer anything I want. Generally, though, if I can come up with an amusing answer, I will.
Heh, thanks for clearing that up with Gundam. That was rather amusing, but bebong is only 13 years old... I guess Gundam must have appeared mature to a kid like that... ( j/k, bebong. )
1. How did you get interested in Japanese?
2. How did you get into Naruto?
3. Why don't you go ahead and explain the premise of School of Water Business here to get that out of the way? I'm sure somebody will ask eventually.
Bonus Question: Name a fav. movie of yours.
Oh, and feel free to call me a mo'fo in Spanish. See ya.
Ever since I saw, as a wee lad, that episode of Entertainment Tonight where they covered then up-and-coming actress Rie Miyazawa's nude photo book (see http://www.mm52.com/japaneseidols/ri.../material.html ), I just knew I had to learn the language of people who produced such wonderfully, er ... nude actresses.Originally Posted by Gold Knight
What? Oh, alright, I'll admit it (but just this once!) - it's not the hot chicks, it's THE VIDEOGAMES, DAMMIT! Yes, yes, I love console games. I wish to work with Japanese game developers in the future, so I'm studying Japanese. You happy now? -_-
Ever since I saw, as a wee lad, that episode of Entertainment Tonight where they covered then up-and-coming actress Rie Miyazawa's nude pho - wait, I already gave that answer once, right? Damn.Originally Posted by Gold Knight
Well, to make a long story short, I saw the animated version of the first story arc and thought "this is another dumb, slow, generic shounen manga." For some people, I'm sure this holds true. However, more people around me started getting into it, so I was forced to overhear some of the more interesting plot twists that took place during the chuunin selection exam. I caved, and looked up the series on the internet. I got some info on it and was intrigued to the point where I downloaded the scanlations out there. I was hooked. It grew on me so fast I didn't know what hit me.
Since then I've made it my life's mission to turn any potential unsuspecting anime fan into a Narutard.
It's about SEX. But it's not what you think. That's all you need to know. So go now and download it from www.tamascans.net . Unless you're under 18. In which case, it's definitely *not* about SEX - it's about little birds and little bees...Originally Posted by Gold Knight

Oh, I do feel free, and I will when you do something that merits it, but thanks anyway.Originally Posted by Gold Knight
1. What's your favorite video game genre?
2. Have you taken classes to pursue that dream of working with game developers?
3. What's your favorite moment in Naruto?
4. Do you also watch anime?
5. Did you get annoyed at all about the "re-touching" Lucas did to the original Star Wars Trilogy?

I like RPGs and fighting games, though generally speaking I'm not particularly good at the latter. As far as RPGs are concerned, I play mostly Japanese style solo RPGs and Strategy RPGs. I don't play MMORPGs at all right now.Originally Posted by Gold Knight

At one time I was president of the Animé club at the University, but I've watched very little since I got back and started working. You could say I switched to manga, but I'm now buying videogames in Japanese almost exclusively, and invariably they feature a good deal of voice acting.Originally Posted by Gold Knight

We both like RPGs and fighting games, though I recently picked up WoW (don't touch it, it's worse than alchohol, you'll never escape its grasp! )
The only question I have for now is: "What does 'Washi wa Shoudai-Sama, Nidaime-Sama no ishi wo uketsuida otoko, San-Daime Hokage ja!' mean" Sure, you can't expect everyone here to speak Japanese, can you?
Maybe I should ask this too: "Can you give us an overall idea of Shool of Water Bussines, other than it's about SEX -written in a font bigger than my bed!-
That's all for now! Hope you stay around and that I'll get to know you

Hello Iwanin. Mind answering some questions of mine? :wink
1. How many languages do u know?
2. Out of all the languages that u know, which is the most difficult one to learn? Why?
3. Can u translate Eileen to both spanish and Japanese for me? Also, teach me how to pronounce them too.
4. Xbox or PS?? Why?
Umm... since you remind me of a friend in WoW I'll ask you of all the translators here You see there's a bunch of words in Greek that could mean something to Japanese! They surely qualify sound wise in my head
Kazanaki - In Greek it's the container of the water in a toilet, the very same container whose water is flushed
Kukutsi - It the seeds i nthe core of a fruit, like the large ones in a peach (if you don't know about peaches who should).
anki - My nick is "Anax" (yeah, people actually call me that and still I think there's much worse ones out there) but my name is Alki(s), so a certain air headed natural blonde (just kidding) decided to mix 'em... Still the result looks fairly Japanese. "Aniki" me brother, right? Then I should just hope "Anki" exists, no matter what it means.
buru - Stressed in the second "u", it's a kind of sea shell you can blow into like a horn and makes the same kind of sound more or less
buru-buru - Stressed in the first "u", it means "blah blah" or "chit chat"
If you answer this and have fun doing so, I might think of more
My friend Charly once mumbled something to that effect. I haven't heard from him since, so I'm assuming what you say is true.Originally Posted by Anax
Woops! Forgot to add the trans. It means "I am the man who inherited the will of the First and Second Hokage-Samas - The Third Hokage!" It's moving to see the old man so determined with the odds so greatly stacked against him. Even in his old age, he remains Hokage and accepts the burdens being one entail... *sniff*... excuse me... *sniff* (*turns away to "let it all out"*)... Ahem...Originally Posted by Anax

Honestly, you'll have to read it to find out. It won't take you more than a couple of minutes to download the first chapter from www.tamascans.net (and it has big mistake in one line, which I'll tell you about only *after* you've downloaded it).
Well, I've been doing this for a year now and haven't gotten tired, so I'll probably be doing translations for the foreseable future.. I'll get back to this one tomorrow, because there are some great questions here.
Just downloaded and read the first chapter. Zany. And Yagura Shigeo reminds me of a vice principal I used to have in high school, except he was bald.
Just one question this time, since you have other questions to answer too.
Ok, so 'Mizushoubai' refers to 'night life' activities... why 'Mizushoubai,' Water Trade, to indicate activites like that?
Good question. Why are the red light districts called "red light" districts?Quote:
Similarly, maybe the origin of the term "mizu shoubai" can be found on the web. However, it's a bit cumbersome for me to look through Japanese websites right now (interface, reading speed, free time), so surely you'll take a raincheck on that answer, right?
What's certain is that it's a euphemism for the soft core sex industry.[br]Posted at: January 19, 2006, 11:38:17 AM_________________________________________________Aniki does mean brother, but it's rather specific: it means older (male) brother. It can also be used to refer to any male older than you. It's something like the "informal but denoting respect/admiration" version of "Older Brother" (maybe NJT or Nihongaeri could be more specific).Originally Posted by Anax
According to my dictionaries, there are 6 possible interpretations to the term "Anki". Two spring to mind right away: one is "safe+disposition" 安気, ant the other is "darkness+putting down/recording" 暗記. The first refers to a state of ease, and the second to "rote memorization", which is - get this - one of Sakura's (and Hermione Granger's) favorite pastimes.
Gotcha. Historical origins of terms can be a bitch to discover, alright. Thanks for the answer.
It's been some time since I last saw you Iwanin, and... well... since then I've started learning Japanese (late afternoon classes etc.) because I always felt that those who understood the language had a lot more fun doing translations, or at least discussing the different aspects of how it could be done.
I'd like to ask you if SoWB is the only manga you're currently translating because I enjoy reading your translations

Well, as far as regular translations go, I'm also doing Mieruhito for Fucking Manga ( forums.fucking-manga.net). Their downloads are also available on IRC. However, I should point out that we're way behind the manga right now. The translations are done up until chapter 14, and the last chapter released was chapter 11. The manga, on the other hand, must be at around chapter 30 right now... :S
I've also just signed on to proofread Death Note for TOWNL, and if TOWNL does continue to post DN translations here, their first eight or nine will probably be mine. Chapter 93 is the first one I'll be doing proofreading on, so we'll see how that goes.
And of course, I'll also do the odd Naruto translation or two, like these past two chapters (but I'm not going regular on it).
I just *love* writting Orochimaru, see. He's such a dear, Orocchan!
