    Re: The cnet128 Thread

If you had read any of the thread at all, you would doubtless know that I'm a university student. I've been out here in Japan on my Year Abroad as the third year of my four-year course in Linguistics and Japanese Studies.

And I may get around to translating the new Gantz Minus chapter at some point when I don't have far too much else to do ~~

    Re: The cnet128 Thread

To be honest, translating professionally is the only thing that comes to mind as an actual career. As I'm sure I've mentioned a number of times, I'd like to try a bit of teaching English in Japanese schools as well.

Thanks for clearing that up and yes, it wouldn't make sense to have it literally translated as with most insults.

    Re: The cnet128 Thread

Hello Cnet, your a good translator but someone thinks your Naruto 458 trans is wrong.

    Quote Quote:
That is an absolute mistranslation. To care for = 気にする (kinisuru); in the original text, it was written (with a heavy emphasis) as 本当に好き (hontou ni suki), to which it translates as "truly loves" or "really loves". Good luck to anyone trying to misinterpret or derail the true and original text in which pertains that Naruto loves Sakura. It is what it is, and no "translator" can change it to be otherwise.

    Spoiler:

The context in which it is written, and the emphasis embodied by the decibels connected to the letters, shows clear elaboration that Naruto loves Sakura, as is stated by Sai. Anyone can try to derail it all they wish; unfortunately for them, its futile.
This is from Kaguko from Naruto forums. What do you think?

Hey! Hope you had a nice flight :-D

Well, I do have a question. In chapter 239, Zakuro calls Bluebell "Nonsense-chan" according to your translation. The kanji actually reads denpa-chan or something like that, though. I don't even know if that's correct, lol. I just hope that you can clear me up.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to imply with my translation that it wasn't talking about a romantic affection; it's most definitely clear that it was. I simply don't feel that the word "love" is particularly appropriate as a translation for 好き; "love" is an extremely strong word that just seems wrong to describe the kind of one-sided affection 好き implies, no matter how much emphasis is placed on it. "Love" is a better fit for the word 愛, or at the very least 恋. I used "cares for" as a term that implies the same kind of sincere romantic affection without all the baggage that the word "love" carries.

Bit early for that, isn't it? I don't leave until Thursday.

Well, I can't say I'm too familiar with "denpa" in this context. It literally means "radio wave", which obviously doesn't make much sense. Edict says it can also be slang for "nonsense", which seems to make a lot more sense, so I went for that. That's all.

Hey Cnet can you translate this for me.

    フィギュアも

    今回のイラストは
    サクラの泣き顔に欲情した為

    意外と涙もろい。

Hello cnet! Your translations are allways funny with the comments. So first of all thank you for that.
And second could I ask your assistance in a little translation crisis?
    Here is the source: http://kc.kodansha.co.jp/product/top.php/1234591098

    真島ヒロ初の限定版!! 超おまけブックレット『Super Supplement』が付いてくる! 内容は‥‥KC未収録のルーシィ・SEXY番外編『海辺の妖精たち』、真島先生の解説付きの『初期設定カラーイラスト&設定資料集』と盛りだくさん!! 今回限りのお蔵だしです!!

    My translation:
Mashima Hiro's first Limited Edition book!! Comes with Super bonus booklet "Super Supplemet"! Contents are.... KC's outstanding record Lucy SEXY extra "Fairies of the Beach", including master Mashima commentary on "setting up of colour illustrations and data creation collection" and much more!! One time limited release!!

    So I had problems with:
    KC未収録

    初期設定カラーイラスト&設定資料集
I think I understand this just can't translate it properly.

    Re: The cnet128 Thread

KC未収録 means "never-before-seen in volumes" (ie. in KC = Kodansha Comics)

初期設定カラーイラスト&設定資料集 would be "colour concept art and collected setting materials". (Ugh, can't think of a concise translation of 設定資料... it's just like, you know, illustrations and background information on the series ><)

    Hey there~!
Big Naruto fan Sahara [Sawara? Sunahara? Sunabara? Can't tell from just the kanji] here!
(In the style of Shinagawa-san, naturally)

...or so I call myself, but I actually have no plans to go and see Successor to the Will of Fire.

    Now then,
I hadn't seen the Naruto Ichiban-kuji goods in my local convenience stores, but I finally got my hands on the mugs and files.

It's not that I wouldn't like to get the figures as well, but three of them seems like a bit much, so I think I'll pass.

I drew this image because I was turned on by Sakura's crying face.

Sakura seems to cry surprisingly easily, doesn't she.
