A question: The mangas from Jump SQ are placed in the ToC by popularity ranking, just like Shonen Jump?

As far as I'm aware, that's the case, but it's less clear with SQ.

I think it is highly possible that SQ follows same Jump's ToC system; for example, the recent axed series (Hanimero and Hasebe-san) were ranked in bottom 5 and last place when they were near their fina chapter.

Indeed, and I do believe that SQ uses the same ToC system as Jump. It's just that it's not confirmed in the same way, so I just mentioned that we didn't know for sure.

SPoT's been quite popular as well recently, so seeing it take first isn't surprising either.

Yeah, no one actually confirmed that. I also just made my judgemen based on looking at the all of past axed series in SQ.

Same for me. Plus, the series that are at the top of the SQ ToC usually have the highest volume sales, and ToC rankings and volume sales are usually similar.

Well, not usually. Binbougami tends to rank very high, but its tank sale is pretty low. On the other hand, Ao no Exorcist tends to hang around in the middle and Gate 7 usually in the bottom.

To add more info, I don't remember to ever see DGM in the first place. Not even second. It's usually right above the last 5 (with Claymore usually near).
And DGM was the best selling title till AnE anime boost.

Kurenai was first place a few times, but the sales never reached past 100k, IIRC.

I always thought that it was kinda odd, but then DGM sPOT and TLRD are related to previous time in WSJ as some member explained before.

I do agree with AnE, but a lot of the people who actually read AnE and send in the questionnaires aren't the AnE anime fans, who are the only reason for the massive tank sales.

I ignore like half the series in SQ, so I honestly can't remember what actually sells well. Well, I know that not that much in SQ actually sells well, but... :P

I follow almost all of SQ series, so I know which series sells and not. Actually, I think SQ has one of few monthly magazines that carries many hit or somewhat hit series (more than BSM and Gangan).

And it is not that weird that the tank sale doesn't reflect ranking. Even in Jump, Nuarihyon/Kuroko are mostly bottom 5 and Bleach/Reborn have decreased its ranking, but they still sell well.

SQ does have quite a few series that sell decently, that is true, but not many true hits. Some of SQ's hits are ex-Jump series, either in the form of continuations or sequels, so it's got something more than BSM and Gangan in that extent.

What are the actual sales figures for Claymore these days? I haven't been paying attention lately.

The majority of the series in Jump reflect the actual sales figures. Reborn still has good sales figures, but it's ending soon anyway. Kuroko's had a lot more sales because of the anime and people just seem to like Mago, although not enough to vote for it, as Mago's the bottom dweller.

That's true, so I want SQ to begin to produce their own authors from now on, and it looks like they are doing it since 2011.

I don't get your point on that paragraph. So, are you telling me that tank sale does reflect ranking or not?

At least it's started to happen, which is an improvement.

That's actually slightly better than I expected for Claymore, what with its popularity falling off a lot in the last two or three years.

I was saying that for the majority of series, the questionnaire responders more or less accurately reflect sales figures, but there will always be series that fall out of the mold for one reason or another. Once Reborn's anime was cancelled, it took a hit in the ToC rankings and has more or less stayed there since then.

I think Mago's anime introduced enough volume buyers to keep it afloat, but without them, I'm not sure that it would still be here. Without the anime, as we all know so well, AnE would still be languishing in ignominy.
