    Re: Jump SQ ( Shueisha)

Do you know whether the TOC in Jump SQ works the same way as Weekly Jump?
Are these the indication of how well these series are fared in the questionnaire? And if so,how many chapters earlier is this ranking (like 8 chapters in Weekly Jump?)

Jump SQ also has a same ToC system as Shonen Jump; however, I'm not sure how many chapter earlier on those ranking. Based on looking at ToC for some axed series, I think the series officially get ranked around chapter 3 or 4.

^^I think its different, sounen jump manga ranked by the readers for last 8 chapters but in the jump sq its ranked by editors and they ranked for last month chapters.

I look to the first page and see 2010 jump sq Covers its incomplete and its end in august issue so, can anyone bring the rest of the covers?

I think maybe Ultimo wasn't much successful as the editors expected and Takei wants to focus more on Shaman King than Ultimo.

A lot of the mangaka seem to be 31 years old; I wonder if they all get together for coffee or something. I love how there's a 61 year age difference between the oldest and the youngest one.

Fan polls are used by all magazines, not just Weekly Jump. Not every magazine use fan polls to organize the TOC, but that does not lesson their importance. Questionnaires are still collected, the polls still tallied, and are often the deciding factor in canceling series early. The only exception I know of among mainstream magazines is Morning, where the editors have been known to overrule the fans if they like a title. But few magazines have editors as powerful as Morning, or as respected. Inoue chose to serialize Vagabond in Morning due to the editorial staff, despite his long association with Shueisha. Same goes for Urasawa, who brought Billy Bat to Morning after more than twenty years of serialization with Shogakukan.

It is likely that whoever posts the SQ TOC to 2CH has also posted an explanation of how the TOC is compiled, if it represents fan polls, and if so how long is the delay between the chapters release and it's ranking. That is how we know what we do about the Jump TOC, the information was (is?) posted to 2CH's Jump survival thread along with the TOC. If anyone who can navigate 2CH can find their way to wherever SQ TOC is posted can check, that would be epic. Just copy and paste the Japanese to this thread. A translation would be nice, but not 100% necessary.

No one has written any information about SQ ToC system in 2ch. Plus, when I look at the uploader of SQ ToC, it is hard to tell whether same person uploads the ToC or not.

I just speculate that SQ series officially get ranked around chapter 3 or 4 based on the ranking for axed series.

Well that sucks, but I suppose it's better than outright cancelling the series. It seems like SQ is getting a little stricter, at least that's how I see it.

    Re: Jump SQ (Shueisha)

It probably has a much to do with Stan Lee pushing 90 and Takei being busy with Jumbor and Shaman King Hana, as it does with sales, fan polls, and business. Stan Lee might not want to write a chapter a month, seasonal serialization might be a better fit for an 88 year old retirees schedule. And it is doubtful that Takei would want to take over writing duties with his other serializations keeping him busy.

Actually, Stan Lee's just credited for coming up with the idea, Takei actually does the drawing and writing, so it's probably just from decreased sales and Takei having other stuff.

Stan Lee creates a story and send it to Takei, then Takei reads it and he edits the story to make suitable for Japanese audience.

Really? I always thought otherwise because the volumes always say that Stan Lee came up with it and Takei's the one making a story, but I guess that makes sense.

That's what it said from JanBang.

    Re: Jump SQ (Shueisha)

You can know that Stan Lee doesn't have that much of an input on Ultimo by looking at how he is credited in recent volumes. It's no longer "story by" for Stan Leem more like "Concept by."

For each chapter of Ultimo there is basically one VoIP/skype call to go over the contents of the chapter. Basically the rough idea. Around every 6 months or so, Takei flies out to the USA to meet with Stan Lee in person to work out the next 6 chapters of the series. Ever wonder why Hiroyuki Takei kept showing up to SDCC and NYCC? Shueisha just bundles it all into a single business trip, which includes a face-to-face with Stan Lee. I think it's happened about 3 or 4 times at I'm aware of. Now with Ultimo moving to Jump SQ 19... who knows how that will work now.
That huge Hiroyuki Takei fan, who's has been around for a long, long time....
