hopefully this is the right thread to talk about kishimotos "Mario".

i read it and don't know what i should think about it. its nice to see something different from him than naruto. on the other hand the story wasn't that great. the conclusion was obvious and the fading into the open ending was too short. a few panels more would have been great. also i don't see how this uncomplex story needed once over 160 pages. it was a "nice" one short, but thats all there was. a long running series wouldn't be good, therefore is the idea not original enough or at least executed interesting.

I can only guess, but based on Kishimoto's interview I'd say that the original draft had more subplots (at least one involving Mario's scars) and probably spent more time building up the romance between Mario and Saori, which I personally felt was the weakest part of the one-shot. I think if the story had been longer, the double-crosses at the end with Saori and Ken would have probably felt more dramatic. The gunplay was also probably more interesting in the original; he mentioned that he had to cut a lot of the intricate gunplay scenes because he didn't have enough pages to depict the correography.

After reading it, it's doubtful that he'll do a full series since Mario implies he's going to kill himself at the end, unless it was a completely new series only loosely based on the one-shot.

For me, it was just nice seeing something completely different from Naruto. I wish I could see the original draft in his old, Otomo-inspired art style. I'm a huge fan of Katsuhiro Otomo's work so I was a little bit disappointed that the redrawn version was so heavily influenced by his time on Naruto -- not that I don't like the art in Naruto, it's just become kinda clean and sterile, in my opinion. His older art was a bit more playful and had more personality.

Anyway, good news for subscribers of Viz's Weekly Shonen Jump: http://shonenjump.viz.com/node/1575

This week's issue included the 4-page bangaihen preview from this week's WSJ. The full one-shot will be featured in the next issue, on May 13 (since there won't be a May 6 issue due to Golden Week).

    Re: Jump SQ (Shueisha)

Sakurai Ato Mangaka for Shounen Sunday's 'Artist Acro'. Will be doing a one shot in Jump SQ's July (June) issue. Her blog post on it. It'll be called Hikajo's gate.

She did a one shot in Shounen Gangan last month too. Today's Cereberos. Interesting, she seems to have jumped ship from Shogakukan, and is eying Square Enix or Shuiesha for a possible next work? (Ironically enough, I found out about this one shot on Fukuchi's twitter, which he only seems to update to talk about his buddies releasing new volumes. What about YOUR manga, for fuck's sake?!) Ahem. I guess I may look into TLing this, since I have plans for 'special' translations in June.

I think you were just imagining it. Though, Amano was doing a oneshot in another shueisha magazine

    Re: Jump SQ (Shueisha)

I was hoping to see a color page for Shin Prince of Tennis cause it's chapter 100.
Maybe two one shots with a few color pages was too much for his schedule.

The absence of DGM keeps hurting.

Discuss the yaoi side of Shingeki no Kyojin and Kuroko no Basket at the Boys Love section.
