It's not so much stuck up as propagating his own legend, not necessarily in a stuck up way, but yeah, it actually makes more sense to say people called him the Pirate King after his death, just like they called One Piece One Piece after his death. (Why's it called One Piece anyway? I've always wondered.) But either way, the point is, it's just a title to sound cool, it's not an ancient position or anything.
That, and the Pirate King probably does not even rule over the pirates of the world. It just shows that he was the greatest pirate, that's all. I mean, we call Oda The Genius, but that doesn't mean he's some psychic mastermind who's planned out the meanings of life and whatnot. It's just a title that shows their mastery of a position or something.
I agree with you about this, Pirate King is simply a title to show he's the pirate who achieved the most, not the ruler of all other pirates.
Thank you for agreeing with me. That being said, does anyone buy into the "D stands for Davy" idea?
ive never really thought about the D standing for Davy meaning that they would all be descended from davy jones its one way of looking at it i suppose but the only thing that we have really heard about davy jones in the world of OP is the whole Davy back fight and robin breifly talking about him to chopper
davy jones is a myth of all pirates. If you want some details about him, you can go watch POTC. :P
And dunno, D for Davy sounds pretty lame. :P
I don't support it, but the thread died down, and I'd heard that idea before.
Excuse me for trying to play forum God.
I personally kinda think d stands for dream (if it does indeed stand for a specific word at all). Some of the thing's Oda's said in the SBS and in interviews about his feelings on pursuing one's dreams and such just sorta lead me to think that.
Thank you for forgiving me. If you hadn't, I'd still be wallowing in my own self grief.
As for it meaning dream, it's not like Saul or BB or Dragon have a serious dream.
Dragon: Overthrow the World Government.
Blackbeard:...Become the Pirate King. That, or it's just a subset of "Get lots of power." I think he's trying to become Pirate King for the power, not the adventure. That's why he's a bad guy and Luffy's a good guy, even though they're so similar.
Saul: Hm. We didn't really see enough of him to know that. Maybe "Stop the World Government from being unfair power-tripping jerks"? Or something to that effect that sounds a bit more dramatic.
But I don't think the "D" really stands for a specific word. The Will of D. doesn't mean that they're descended from kings or anything, it's just that people have noticed that people with a "D" in their names tend to have certain personality traits and attitudes, and they call it the Will of D. because that's the common factor. I don't think the "D" itself will explain that. It's not like having a "D" in your name automatically means that you have the Will of D, or that you can't share some of the Will of D. traits if you don't have a "D" in your name. It's just that it usually works out that way. Though if the "D" does mean anything, I have to say, I would also go with "dream" or "dreamer". They all do have that in common, and alot of their traits can be traced to the cause of being a dreamer. And it's true that there has to be a reason why everyone we've seen so far with a "D" in their name has had the Will of D. qualities. Maybe they're all descended from one man who was known for being a dreamer, or they're all descended from different people, who each got the name because he was a dreamer, independently of the others.
I've got it: D is the fourth letter of the English Alphabet, and Sanji is the fourth SH to join the crew. It's a hint showing that Sanji is secretly the hero of the story.
lolz @ Impels Sanji theory
Imitorar got me thinking and if I may I'd want to connect your last sentence witth an other idea.
The man known for being a dreamer O D. A - although I dont think its likely as he should have seen his name written at least in romanji before or is it?
*smacks forehead* Oda. O-D-A. Never thought of it like that. Oh, Oda-sensei, you kick so much ass with your existance.
We all know Luffys family, his brother, father, and grandpa but do you think the other "D's" in one piece are some How related to him?
Such as Black Beard (.D Teach
or the giant .D Saul
Dont forget .D Rogers
Is it possible for any of them to be related to Luffy in any way?
Luffy has been said to remind people of Gold rogers Several times and it even made a point in the manga about the D part
Well, the Ds could be so wide-spread that Saul is just like a 8th cousin 15 times removed or something.
I think BB is like a drunken uncle or something. He acts like an uncle, to me. And Roger...I guess he could be an uncle too, maybe what made Dragon turn all Revolutiony.
