北の戦乱直後、覚醒者の群れが組織本部を襲撃した。組織壊滅の危機を救ったのは、幾多の苦難の末に完成を迎えた“アリシア”、そして“ベス”であった。
Immediately after the Northern Campaign, a band of Awakened Beings raided the Organization HQ. Saving the Organization from the verge of destruction is "Alicia," who was finally completed through numerous hardships, and also "Beth."

The Organization utilizes a variety of experiments in order to increase the battle potential. Within such is the attempt to rival the power of the Abyssal Ones, which is one of the focal points. Having completed "Alicia" through toil and sweat, this is nonetheless rooted in the costly sacrifices of the past.
A-01 目指したもの

深淵の者に対するには、討妖録IIで既述の通り「高い妖力解放」と「覚醒を回避する制御」の両立が必要と考えられた。我々は解答を模索し、解放と制御の役割分担という仮説を立て、姉妹であった当時のナンバー1と2を被験体として実験へと踏みきった。
As mentioned in Youma War Record II, "immense youriki release" and "ability to suppress awakening" are two necessary factors in combatting the Abyssal Ones. Seeking the answer, we hypothesized the splitting of roles between "release" and "suppress," and carried forward the experiment on the sisters that were No.1 and 2 at the time. {Youriki: please refer to my notes at the beginning.}

A-02 実験結果
A-02 Experimental Results
実験は組織本部で行われたが、精神担当の妹ラファエラが制御に失敗、妖力解放を行っていた姉ルシエラの覚醒を引き戻せず惨事に終わる。ルシエラは深淵の者の1人となり南へ去ったが、組織は訓練生を含め戦士の半数を失うなど、壊滅の危機に瀕した。
Experiments are conducted within the Organization HQ. Rafaela, the younger of the sisters in charge of the mind, failed her role in suppressing the youriki of her older sister Luciela. Her youriki release led to the irreversible awakening, ending the experiment in a grave misfortune. Having become one of the Abyssal Ones, Luciela headed south, and the Organization lost half of its warriors including trainees, verging on destruction.

失敗の原因は、妖気同調の不完全さと、制御を司るラファエラの精神力の弱さにあったと思われる。妖気同調を完全とするためには妖気の同質化を徹底する必要があり、当初から危惧されていたように、ただの姉妹では不十分なことがこれで実証されたのだ。
The reasons for failure are believed to be the imperfect youki alignment, in addition to the weak mind possessed by Rafaela with the suppressing role. In order to perfect youki alignment, it is absolutely necessary to achieve youki homogenization. Just as we feared from the beginning, sisters were proven to be insufficient.
このため、双生児による早期からの訓練と、自我の抑制が必要との結論に至るが、これは精神の弱さの克服にも有効とみなされ、次の実験に活かされることとなった。
For the reasons above, we have concluded the necessity of training twins from a young age, as well as the suppression of the sense of self. It is believed the problem with weak minds can be overcome in doing so, forming the basis for the next experiment.

B 完成 深淵の者に対抗可能な戦士の誕生
B Completion Birth of the warrior that can rival the Abyssal One
前述の実験失敗による損失は深刻なものであり、組織再建に多大な時間と労力か費やされることになる。
Due the extensive loss from the aforementioned experimental failure, the Organization had no choice but to invest large amounts of time and effort in its reconstruction.
だが、我々は開発を断念したわけではなかった。分析結果に基づいて計画を繰り直し、綿密な準備を進め再開の機会を得たのである。前例を省みて、人材選びには特に慎重を期し、訓練方法も徹底して改良を加えた。
However, we had yet to abandon our development. Basing on the result analysis, we revised our plans, and made comprehensive preparation in allowing the opportunity to resume our experiment. Reflecting on our previous experience, we took special care in selecting talents, as well as thoroughly reforming the training methods.
そして、長い刻苦の期間の末に、ついに我々は理想を形とすることに成功したのである。
And so, at the end of our lengthy struggles, we have finally succeeded in materalizing our ideals.

成功の確率を可能な限り高めるため、妖気の同質化と早期からの訓練は不可欠な要件とされた。
In consideration of maximizing chances of success, youki alignment and early training are essential requirements.
このため、「双生児の幼児」の確保は必須要求事項であった。この希少な人材確保のため、我々は直接一般家庭から乳児の譲渡を交渉するという、異例の手段すら採った。人材の捜索、親との交渉は決してスムーズにはいかなかったが、結果、双生児の中で素質の頭抜けたアリシアとベスを得るに至る。
For that reason, securing infant twins is a top priority. In securing such rarity of a talent, we have directly approached families to negotiate the yielding of infants, should it require exceptional means. Though neither the search for talent nor the negotiations with parents went smoothly, in the end, we have come to obtain Alicia and Beth, the finest of all the twins.
こうして全ての準備材料が整い、実験の本格再開が可能となったのである。
With this, all preparation materials are in place. A formal resumption in the experiment becomes possible.

B-02 訓練過程
B-02 Training Process
対象の双生児には幼児期に同じ妖魔の血肉を使った半人半妖化が施され、早期からの訓練が徹底的に行われた。
The twins for the experiment were given the same Youma flesh in proceeding with their half-human half-Youma transformation, thenceforth commencing extensive training from the early days.
訓練内容のほぼ全てが妖気同調と戦闘技術に割かれた。戦士となってもこれを変えず、担当地区にも殆ど出なかった。
Almost all training contents were dedicated in youki alignment and fighting techniques. This did not changed even after becoming warriors, and they seldom make an appearance in their assigned regions.
結果、戦闘以外のことは考えず、固有の自我をほとんど持たない心となったが、自我の無いことは計画の要である精神共有には都合が良く、余計なことを考えないため精神の弱体化も回避されることにも繋がった。何より、従順な戦士となり、訓練はより順調に進む結果となった。
As a result, they thought nothing but battle, with almost none of their intrinsic self remaining. But losing a sense of self was also an important part of the plan, which served to assist their soul-linking effort. By ridding unnecessary thoughts, the weakening of the mind could be avoided. Above all, they were able to become obedient warriors, steadily accomplishing training to arrive at the results.

B-03 役割分担
B-03 Role Allocation
詳細は後述するが、2人は精神を共有し、戦闘時にはアリシアが完全妖力解放をしながら、ベスが妖気を完全に抑制して精神の変容を食い止めるという役割分担を果たす。
Details will be explained later. In linking their soul, during battle, Alicia will fully unleash her youriki, while Beth will fully suppress the youki, carrying out the role in preventing transfiguration of the mind.
このため、完全妖力解放により身体を覚醒しても、人間の心を失わず、人間に戻ることを可能としているのである。

通り名の由来となる、彼女達の黒い装備は、覚醒の肉体変容に合わせた特殊な仕様となっている。

B-04 実戦投入結果
B-04 Actual combat Outcome
完成後、最初の実戦では、イースレイが本部へ差し向けた、１１体もの並以上の覚醒者が相手となった。
結果は上々たるものであった。アリシア単騎で、１１体全ての殲滅を短時間の内に成し遂げたのだ。精神を受け持つベスの戦闘終了後の消耗は、激しいものでありつつも想定内であり、直接戦闘を担当したアリシアにおいては無傷という、期待通りの戦果を得た。
After completion, their first actual combat involves facing 11 Awakened Beings sent towards the HQ by Isley, all of which are above average. The outcome was exceptional. Alicia alone destroyed all 11 enemies within a short time. While the exhaustion was strenuous for Beth, who was responsible of the mind, it was also within expectation. Alicia, being in charge of combat, concluded the battle without a single injury as anticipated.

同調を得意とする戦士が、相手の動きをある程度支配することが可能なように、彼女達は相互に完全支配が可能な状態となっている。言うなれば完全同調とは、妖気のみならず、意思や行動もシンクロしていることを指すのである。
It may be possible for warriors who excel in alignment to control their targets to an extent, whereas the twins are able to fully take control of each other. In a sense, it can be said that perfect alignment not only concerns youki, their will and actions are also synchronized.

At the end of a long history of hardship, we see the completion of "Alicia" for the time being. There has never been such an example in the past, so uncertainty is prevalent. Although we cannot call it 'perfection,' it is a satisfactory result for now. Through defending the HQ from the raid of Awakened Beings, they have proven their combat prowess, at the same time displaying that strength to the Abyssal Ones, in which it is significantly meaningful.

At the least it will be for me.
I feel Yagi kinda made the last of him by simply having Helen and Deneve say "damn he's that strong even when he's injured!?" during the Abyssal Eater saga, but now that I think about it, Luciela didn't get that much of the spotlight either. Riful's stands out to be so much more important in the main series. To be honest, I'd like to see the other two in extra scenes like the posts in the other thread has suggested.
