    Re: The Major Thread

Who here has an annoying requirement for their major? I'll start: I need to do 250 hours of volunteering before I'm let into the school of Education. I don't mind volunteering, but that's a lot.

    What's your annoying requirement?

    Re: The Major Thread

My annoying requirement is that after I graduate, I need 2 years of experience as apprentice before I can take the board exam. Sucks more than yours.

Yeah, that really does suck. I don't think I could wait through 2 years of apprenticing just to teach.

becoming a teacher, majoring in English and Physical Education, minoring in Chemistry for now, but will probably quit Chemistry studies. Also includes minor studies of Education.

annoying requirements: before i graduate, i have to go into school for 2 years, first just sitting in a corner in class and observe, then giving lessons myself, having exams all the time in all my subjects. after i passed that, final examination in school and a huge paper to write which will examined by the state's examiner.

hmm....I haven't really looked into the details yet, but in order for me to teach I need to pass some teaching credentials exam...

I think I need to get my phD if I want to teach at a college campus though. At the moment I'm only thinking short-term stuff, so I wouldn't have a clue, I can't think that far ahead into my future. I'm quite sure I need some sort of additional schooling, perhaps some volunteer work..

You don't HAVE to have you PhD, I have a few professors who only have their Master's. But the PhD is probably preferred.

As far as my major, no REAL annoying requirements, except for a few stupid classes :/

    I'm back :3

thanks for that info...actually that's also what I've heard from some of my professors, but they almost always encourage for you to get your phD, it probably won't hurt you, they say.

I've noticed there's a lot of people here who plans to teach...

Is it only me, or are you thinking the same way I do, when I'm making a habit of borrowing teaching techniques from some of my best professors?

Well, i guess it's kinda hard to copy a professor's technique for me, since i'm going to teach at school. If i try to use the professor's ways of teaching on a 5th grade student, i don't think it wwill be of much use. but yeah, since my requirement for my studies is to go into school from time to time, observe and try to give lessons, i do observe the way teachers teach and try to memorize it for the future =)
I think it's the best way of learning anyway. The techniques we are taught in seminars are sometimes...a bit "stupid" as it seems. Methods for groupwork...if i used such methods in the higher grades (11-13 or so), they'd just have very good laughs at me. So i try to learn from teacher's experience =)
