The concept of "Genius" in NARUTO

I honestly don't consider that canon because it's out of character for Naruto and makes me think Kishi only showed that for either humorous purpose or for Itachi to save the jinchuuriki's asses.

But is is canon because it actually happened. You can't chalk it up to something else, it happened, he made a massive blunder. Don't try and cover things up for him. I could say the same thing with something like Neji failing to see Naruto underground in the chunnin exams despite the fact he had a kekkai genkai that allows him to see through things.

Why bring up geniuses? I'm actually arguing against the fact that he's a genius, but I'm saying he's not as dumb as made out to be. I mean, with poor childhood and lack of focus due to habit, it's not shocking he's not as smart out of battles.

He is as dumb as he's made out to be, his constant blunders show us that he is. You chalk it up to comedy or plot importance, but the fact of the matter is that is his character. You are giving him credit he doesn't deserve. We can't say Sasuke isn't emotionally unstable because he's usually smart, he's also prone to being highly emotional which lead him not us rationality and logic. Naruto is the same way with his stupidity.

I agree, but he could be much smarter, if not better. The difference between Sasuke and Naruto is that Sasuke had someone when he was a kid, Naruto's never had anyone. Sasuke wanted to be the best because he wanted to be like or better than his brother while Naruto just wanted attention in any way possible.

That's BS. Naruto did have people, he had Sarturobi and Irkua. Sasuke had everyone stripped from him at 5 years old and then isolated himself and get growing without any significant contact.

While enviornmental factors play a part, Naruto is the way he is because of nature. You can't deny that. He inherited certain traits from his mother, and he himself is an imbecile. People have natural dispositions, no amount of outside forces can change this sometimes.

Doubt it, since Lee who he is because of his ambition to be the best taijutsu fighter. But it's kinda different from Naruto. Same with Orochimaru - maybe he'd still be as powerful if he never lost his parents.

I think his toughness would suffer, but not combat ability. He'd be much smarter and possibly trickier, though I doubt that.

How can you claim Lee or Orochimaru wouldn't be different but Naruto then would? You can't give him the benefit of the doubt and then not give them the same.

I've always assumed he was probably in an orphanage until he was around 10 at which point he was given his apartment and told to take care of himself.

My point was though he wasn't always alone, and that he did have positive influences and he still chose to be an ass and jerk around. He did so because that's his personality, he was never going to be a good little school boy who would sit and do his work quietly.
