    余計始末 - Hrrrrrrrrm

So I've encountered a new word in my travels that's not in any dictionary, yet is in widespread use according to google - 余計始末. 99% of all uses are either ~が悪い or ~負えない.

Context tells me that it's like, "makes me feel bad", "makes it even worse", "leaves me with a bad feeling", "leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth", stuff like that, but I'm having trouble figuring out the nuances of its use. Has anyone else seen this word/phrase before? How did you translate it & why?

    It's not a 四字熟語 either.

    apparently it means

    もっとめんどくさくなった^^

    hope that helps

You seem to be mis-parsing things.

It's 余計 as an adverb (aka 副詞, the last definition) + 始末 used in a semi-idiomatic expression (links to entries for those expressions at bottom).
    出産間近のうちの妻曰く「お産だけに、押さんといて!」
    そう。女性とは言えど見事に親父ギャグを発するのである。

    Re: 余計始末 - Hrrrrrrrrm

始末が悪い would be along the lines of -hard to deal with, or -troublesome to finish off, and generally insinuates a sticky or troublesome situation to deal with.

    It's used like... hmm...

    半端な知識は時に無知より始末が悪い。
An incomplete knowledge is sometimes a greater trouble than ignorance.

    Like that.

余計に、would be ~in excess, and would generally insinuate ~of greater amount than is strictly needed.

So, 余計に始末が悪い would mean, using an example...

    ただでさえ仲が悪い嫁姑だったが、お互いに好戦的な態度に出るから余計に始末が悪い。
The wife and mother-in-law were already at odds with each other, but the situation was made even harder to deal with because of their aggressive attitudes toward the other.

I think that's the best I can explain it.
