On the bright side, you now root for Skip Bayless's favorite team

In all seriousness, when bad things happen to the Pats, an angel gets their wings.

Well, just because the court finds you "not guilty" doesn't mean that you're innocent. Most Americans believe that OJ's a despicable person who should be spending his life in jail.
Which he is sort of doing anyway, for a crime unrelated to the murder thing.

Whatever, it's offtopic, but it's annoying me. I'll shut up.
The biggest difference is that OJ was a global celebrity, bigger than football. Aaron Hernandez is still just Aaron Hernandez. He's not even the best tight end on his own team. The car chase, trial, and verdict were among the defining events of the 90's. I remember exactly what I was doing during the car chase (they broke into the NBA Finals, Knicks - Rockets), and the verdict (gym class, everyone gathered around a crappy old TV). I can't even imagine what the OJ trial would be like if the internet was around back then.

Maclin and Dennis Pitta suffer injuries, which will cause them to miss the entire season. Awful news for the Eagles. Gary, do the Ravens have any notable TEs other than Pitta?

Ed Dickson, who was a higher draft pick the same class as Pitta, and Billy Bajema. We have a little depth there, but neither are as reliable as he was. Then we have the undrafted free agent Matt Furstenburg from UMD. I think he'll probably make the roster now, unless they go out and sign a veteran.

Dickson's problems have been injuries and Pitta just proved to be way more sure-handed than him.

Who is Flacco's hot read, now that Pitta and Bolden are both gone?

    Morgan product Visanthe Shiancoe

If Dickson can stay healthy and get the kind of playing time Pitta did, I think he can be that. I think Smith might get too many double-teams to be that guy on any snap, and Jacoby Jones just isn't reliable enough. We have some other WRs like Tandon Doss and LaQuan Williams who should get more playing time anyway. Especially Doss, with Bolden being traded, similar receivers.

I've never even heard of Billy Bajema.

    So, really, no one.

He's been the third TE the last couple of seasons...which translates to him maybe blocking on goal line plays....

Ah, it's better to have him blocking than a star. I'm still angry about what happened with Gronk last season; however, it is true that Gronk always played in those situations, so...

Well, I have no idea of his worth as a pass catcher either. But he wasn't asked to do that. And with Shiancoe and the other young talent we have at the position, we might never have to know.

At least the Ravens TE situation is less of a mess than the Patriots. The Pats lost, what, their top 4 receivers from last year? Welker, Lloyd, and Hernandez are gone, while Gronk has had an ungodly number of arm and back surgeries this off season.

He's always been a serviceable player. I think him not doing squat last year had a lot to do with being on a team with Gronk and Hernandez.

    Re: NFL Thread

Serviceable is a very charitable description. Unreliable would be more accurate. He drops a lot of balls, does not run great routes, and is not a great blocker. There is a reason he was unsigned going into camp this year, and signed to a team with so much TE depth last year. Shiancoe has always had talent and athleticism, but has never played to his potential.
