If you're looking for something somewhat similar to Historie, Vinland Saga would be a great choice.
Historie is a bit more intellectual usually has Eumenes pondering some sort of situation, while Vinland Saga follows more closely a group of characters in a Viking campaign.
Less banter, more fighting.

I know almost nothing about Wales history, but it can fit.
For England, I don't think so, since this country would have to wait some decades before having a non-danish king.
Why not an Askeladd, king of Wales (if he succeed to lead all the country), creating havoc against Canute?
Anyone know when 51 comes out?
Oh, I mean chapter 54. Anyone know when that comes out?
it should be around end of april, nihonto. I don't keep tab of release dates but when I checked my files, I got ch53 about that time in March.
I saw the RAW on a couple sites today. Now I just have to wait for a scanlation to come up.
Vinland Saga 54 Raw
hey newbified, the link's broken, i think.
The chapter Title "End of prologue" might tell us, that Thorfinns adventures may take a completely different route now.
I read the spoilers.
well. I guess it's the age of Canute and Thorfinn now. finally!
I like Askeladd, but was the best for the story that he died. Was going to be much of a repeat, Thorfinn chasing Askeladd to get is revenge.
I sincerely was expecting that Makoto sensei, wasn´t going to kill him, but Makoto-sensei knows how to use the twists on the story to become more cool to read.
Kind of liked him to though it is funny to see Thorfinn get robbed of his revenge. And Askeladd was cool in his mad frenzy. He went out like a true man. Though Askeladd raised a good question there for Thorfinn, what are you going to do now? I like to know to.
I half expected Askeladd would die in a last fight with Thorfinn, leaving the young one "empty" because his revenge doesn't give him the satisfaction he hoped.
Somewhere it's a natural conclusion. We can ask ourself if Thorfinn really wanted to kill him. From the sad look he had with Askeladd's death, we can assume he was in denial about his true feelings about him.
Now, what will happen? I don't think (or want to) the author left the story here to pursue in another point. We should know about Canute's whereabouts.
By the way, before taking actions, Thorfinn should wake up and make up new resolution. Actually, he's quite the shaking ragbag in a jail.
