Yea, like Jaminn said you can start almost anywhere as they're by and large stand-alone. My personal favourites are Guards! Guards! and the lovely The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.

I think I saw that book in a second hand bookstore last week. I'll buy it tomorrow if it's still there.

The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents wasn't there anymore. Looks like someone else bought that book. But there are other Terry Pratchett books available:
    • The Truth
    • The Dark Side Of The Sun
    • Monstrous Regiment
    • Truckers
    • Maskerade

    What should I buy?

So I've just finished reading a couple of books, most of which I really enjoyed: Kinds of Minds by Daniel Dennett, Letters to a Young Contrarian by Christopher Hitchens (actually re-reading but whatevs), Fac-To-Tum by Charles Bukowski, A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, and The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare (for school).

I'm in the middle of A Feast for Crows by George Martin and I'm about to start Descartes' Error by Antonio Damasio and The Trial by Kafka (very excited for this one).

Three Women(Drei Frauen) by Robert Musil, I love me some modernist oddity.

Have you read The Man without Qualities or The Confusions of Young Torless?

I compensated with Three Women, I will try to find that book, sadly translations of popular literature in my country are a weak spot. So are translations of academic books and stuff.

Reading it in German must have been quite an experience? It has always been a dream of mine to read Kafka in the original language that his books were written, things might go same for Musil.

Reading the Devil of Nanking at the moment. Although the story unfolds at a slower pace in the beginning, it gradually becomes quite interesting. Now, I'm hooked to it. Can't wait to finish!

Really? I loved it through and through. Though several times the series left me emotionally devastated. So I'm almost glad I was reading them as they came out since it gave me like a year to recover.

Does anybody here know of any monster books?

By that I mean like the written equivalent of the movie Tremors? Or Predator, Godzilla, Jaws, The Blob, or anything like that. Something where you got people and something scary eating them (Ghost's don't count). I'm in the mood to find something like that and I'm not sure where to start.

It doesn't need to be award winning fiction for anything like that. A solid B-Movie in book form would be ideal.

Can someone message me an anime that's similar to d grayman or claymore or deathnote?

Ive seen Deathnote, deadman wonderland, fairytale, shigurui, ao no exorcist, beelzebub, samurai champloo, code geass, devil may cry, Hakuouki, monster, blood plus, gantz. Basically, something with demons and gore.

    Gun Machine by Warren Ellis
Rant by Chuck something-something(forgot his name)
And of course I am working my way through "Cthulhu Mythos'' essentials. Tried ASOIAF but Martin's style isn't for me.

Bought The Glass Bead Game by Hesse and Theatrical Novel by Bulgakov today, looking forward to two of the authors that previous books I read left an impression on me.

I was planning to buy that. figured it was a classic I ought to own. But the copies I found were a bit expensive...
