Tite Kubo - The Best Poet in Manga? The Poetry of BLEACH

Is it just me or does Kubo write some pretty good verses in the volumes? It's amazing to see how much effort he puts into writing them, though it makes me wonder if most of the tankobon readers pay attention to his poems.

I wrote about his poetic habits at: http://www.mangatherapy.com/post/173...f-bleach-manga

How many of you have been moved by Kubo's poetry? Some of the poems have hit a nerve in me (most recently, Volume 53's poem). I can't wait to see what he comes up with regarding the potential new characters and characters that haven't received the cover treatment yet.

It's not about the verses themselves though, just how they are related to the character. Some characters with a "fuck it" attitude like Grimmjow also have a "fuck it" tone for their poems like "Kill them, kill them all!". He is all about the characters, he'd rather have a solid character than a solid plot.

Yeah, I do wonder if BLEACH is about a crazy number of poets living in a world where things are messed up in their eyes.

I've always liked that about Bleach: the poems in each volume.

Bleach is educational, too, lol. I've learned several Spanish words and the word "halcyon" specifically because of Bleach.

Let's not forget the poetic qualities of kidou incantations. Hearing those have got to be some of my favorite Bleach moments.

I always loved the poems but I never paid attention to them all that much. I did like a lot of them and Volume 25 has my favorite one.

Re: Tite Kubo - The Best Poet in Manga? The Poetry of BLEACH

The poems are are a good way of describing the characters more in depth,
because it shows their views and ideas.(e.g. Yukio's new poem)
It was always someting special for me, because it's an unique feature for a manga.

The poems I like the most are Zangetsu's(Volume 8):

If it rusts, it can never be trusted
If its owner fails to control it, it will cut him
    Yes, pride is
    Like a blade

    and Chad's(Volume 5):

If I don't wield the sword,
    I can't protect you.

If I keep wielding the sword,
    I can't embrace you.

and of course Shirosakis poem, too.
Naruto-kun...I've always...always been chasing after you. Even...now. But... once this war ends, I'm going to stop once and for all.
Next time, I'll be next to you, holding your hand...walking with you! Wait for me!!

I started saying "Que suerte!" from BLEACH. XD Darn Yammy!

Volume 25 is probably one of the best poems Kubo has ever written so far. It's really hard to top that one.

Yeah, poems in manga are a rarity. Though it shows how much Kubo loves his characters. Also, WE NEED SHIROSAKI TO COME BACK IN THE FINAL ARC!

I LOVE the poems in Bleach. They describe the characters perfectly, often more like "explain" them as it really helps to understand the characters. Kubo is definitely excellent poet.

My favorite is 25, hands down, but other than that, I can't name any, as I love every single one.

Wow, everybody loves Volume 25's poem. I do think Kubo's poems describe the characters perfectly.

25 really stands out given the significance of the character and how he's so related to Ichigo himself. Well, there are also a few that stand out pretty well: like Ginjou's poem in Volume 50.

I like the one he did about Gin. I can't recall the actual poetry, but I remember that I found it quite beautiful.

There were two poems he had: Volume 20 and Volume 48.

Volume 20 was about love and I think Volume 48 was about his snake-like nature.

you guys were talking about 25 and I simply had to google it.
I like it, really but not as much as chad's one .

It doesn't really relate to chad but its one of my favorite, I really like this
I don't particularly love kubo poems and so but I think its rather interesting for him to do it.

Chad's poem is simple to the point. Yeah, Kubo seems more inspired and focused on his poems than his story sometimes.

By poetry you meant he incantations, right? Yep, I always read them many times. Some of them are really good and meaningful. Its not just the words, which makes his poetry enjoyable, its the whole setting, the character, etc.

If you understand the character, the poetry becomes super-awesome if you ask me. I think Kubo wants us to appreciate the settings around us a bit more.
