Mugen no Jūnin (Blade of the Immortal)

The news lasted since last fall. Now we finally got specific informations about the Anime adaption of Blade of the Immortal!!

Tomokazu Seki (Escaflowne's Van, Gungrave's Beyond the Grave) will voice the main character Manji — a rōnin swordsman condemned to immortality unless he kills a thousand evil men for all the good men he killed. Rina Satou (Negima!'s Negi, Bamboo Blade's Satori) will play Manji's fellow traveler Rin. Hirofumi Nojima (Kagehisa Anotsu), Kazuya Nakai (Taito Magatsu), Masashi Ebara (Sabato Kurui), Katsuyuki Konishi (Eikū Shizuma), Daisuke Namikawa (Araya Kawakami), Mamiko Noto (Makie), Megumi Toyoguchi (Hyakurin), Toshiyuki Morikawa (Giichi), Shinichiro Miki (Shira), and Maaya Sakamoto (Machi) complete the cast.

Koichi Mashimo will direct the animators on Bee Train as he did for the .hack// franchise and Noir. Hiroyuki Kawasaki (The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Sorcerer Hunters) will oversee the scripts, and Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Murder Princess, Samurai Champloo animation director) will design the characters. Kō Ōtani (Ayakashi Ayashi, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) will compose the music.

BotI as anime? Unbelievable to many of us because of the unusual drawing style which gives a special mood to the whole story. But now it's coming, so what can we expect?

Discuss away!!! But keep all Spoilers and Manga-related talk to our BotI Manga Thread!

And to point something really nice out:

    Kazuya Nakai (Taito Magatsu)
That's the voice actor of Samurai Champloo's Mugen!! PERFECT!!!

Though, I'm not sure what to think about the seiyuu of Shuichi (Gravitation), Ryuuki (Saiunkoku Monogatari) and Kamui (X 1999) for Manji. Isn't it a way to light and soft voice, if not even childish? Hmmm... But then again, I don't know many of his other roles at all, so he's maybe able to play with his voice.

Meh, did I never expect this to happen! I just hope it's as close to the manga as possible.

And I don't think there's any worry about Manji's voice, by deepening his voice I'm sure Seki will be able to manage capturing the perfect voice.

Hm, I don't really worry. I just can't imagine it. All roles of this seiyuu which I know are... girly voices
Sexy voices without any question but somehow to light and to soft to fit a guy like Manji. Well, we will see

But I could jump of joy about Taito's voice! One of the very few seiyuu where I could listen to DramaCDs without understanding a word over hours

Now, I'm really curious about the "style". Will they manage to stay close to the Manga pictures?

Didn't Hiroaki once say that he'd only agree to an anime if they followed followed the manga and his instructions closely? Either that or he was offered a lot of money.

I believe he said that he really did not want it becoming an anime, but that if it ever were to be one he wanted total power over how it is done.

The animation will have to very high quality, thus precluding the idea of a long-running series. If they end up compiling it into 26 episodes I think they'll have to make up their own ending and end up straying from the manga. I don't really like the idea of this translating into an anime, I don't think they can really do the series justice.

I'm looking forward to this, though I'm wondering if I should read the manga before, or after, I watch this.

Re: Mugen no Jūnin (Blade of the Immortal)

I strongly suggest to read the Manga first.

Well, I usually always suggest to start with the Manga when the Anime is an adaption of it but especially in this case - really, do it. The artwork and mood of this Manga is unusual, very sketchy yet rich of details. It's working without linearts, like reading a pencil drawed storyboard for a Samurai movie. Of course, there're also people who don't like it for exact this reason.

Also, you will better understand the concerns brought up here about the possibility to animate this Manga.

Animation looks pretty damn good. It's kind of interesting that they're using Blade of the Immortal as the official subtitle.

    Looking forward to this.

Re: Mugen no Jūnin (Blade of the Immortal)

What's the expected date of the anime's release? I have to agree, the animation looks promising, in spite of how many negative posts I've read about Bee Train. But let's face it, with anime they use about three types of animation artists, one for high-quality episodes (Like Bleach 166) and the less impressive ones (Bleach 167) and then the poor quality (too many episodes to recall). I use to notice it a lot when I use to watch DBZ. Sorry I had to use these animes as an example; I was only trying to make a point so I hope I didn't break any rules or anything.
