Clannad season two (iirc) and School Days. Makes your stomach turn...
Grave of the fireflies
Now and then here and there
Clannad after story......
ef - a Tale of Melodies was very sad.
Nabari No Ou. It was a depressing angst-fest all the way through, even to the last few seconds of it.
Clannad After Story really tugs at your heartstrings and can even make you cry. I cried. Well...I even cried during the first season…
I think one of the reasons why the emotional effect on the fans is so powerful in Clannad is because of how attached you get to those characters and to their respective stories, at least that is what happened to me.
Now regarding School Days…wow…that anime is depressing for completely other reasons and so many reasons...but for now I'm only going to say “nice boat, nice boat”…
And yes, ef-a tale of melodies…another anime that made me cry.
lol Evangelion wasn't depressing at all. Sure its melancholic and dreary in tone but the end was quite optimistic, both in the tv series and the End of Evangelion. Sometimes I wonder if people actually pay attention to what the characters say, its obviously a happy end only EoE hits you over the head with this concept multiple times. And that's really the case with all Gainax ends, sure there's a sacrifice but the endings feel much more accomplished than in most animes
Here are some that kinda made me feel down after watching them
-the entire Darker Than Black series. Seriously why is everything so sad? ;_;
-Rainbow. This is actually very depressing, the stuff those guys have to go through in prison...
-Berserk. But only the first half, the second half is noticeably lighter in visuals and tone
-Casshern Sins. This one needs no explanation, its about as grimdark as shows get lol
-Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, first season only
and I though School Days was funny. Well mostly because I was watching that for the lulz, its so ridiculously over the top. And I really need to stop putting off Clannad, but I think I'm going to read the Visual Novel instead
Hahaha, Depressing Animes?!
I didn't know they existed..yeah right.
They do exist, animes ain't all about fluffy and cute looking characters and fighting..fighting...fighting.
Animes that actually touch your heart!
It was so hard to watch Tomoya, that guy tries his best yet it's so sad for him. At least they gave him a happy ending although I doubt that happens in real life.
-Full Metal Panic! The 2nd Raid
The seperation of chidori and sousuke, it's depressing watching them being apart yet heartwarming when they are back together again.
-Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Realistic and sad, 8/10 for sadness level.
Needless to say, realistic and very human like characters.
Easy to relate to, easy to cry for.
Watch this, really really really depressing and mindgasm.
-Darker than Black
Why must Hei's life be full of sadness?
Mindgasm and depressing.
Agreed on many that have already been mentioned, like FMA, RuroKen etc. Since they've already been mentioned here's a new one
first off, I must clarify that this anime will have you in stitches of laughter half the time. It's the other half where they throw emotional sledgehammer after sledgehammer at you. Some of the backstories are really depressing... And the clincher was the final emotional sledgehammer that hit with great force in the final episode. It left me staring blankly at the screen with tears rolling down my cheeks as the ending theme played, very powerful. And yes, depressing.
Anyone who enjoyed Clannad should like this, as it's by the same studio with Maeda Jun at the helm again just expect a lot more comedy than Clannad. A lot.
zeltrax, try out School Days.. Seriously, just try it... It'll come on top on your list after you've finished it... It's way sadder than Clannad!
I felt like I've been kicked in the guts after watching it.
Angel beats was okay, rather sad but needed more episodes, certainly will be better if there was more episodes.
A good 13 episodes though.
Agreed on Angel Beats. Many characters' backstories were not even touched on at all, like TK for example. That's my major peeve with the show. Well there's a DVD-only episode coming out soon so I'm hoping for something that ties up these loose ends preparing my tissues for it XD
