    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

What I would like to know is: how far is the story of Basilisk historically correct?

There are well-known persons of japanese history like Tokugawa Ieyasu or Hattori Hanzo from which we know that they existed in fact.
Did also Iga and Kouga exist? If yes, was there a battle between those clans to determine the politics of this era?

    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

    From Wikipedia

    Quote Quote:
The Iga province of Japan is particularly famous for its clan of ninja, its most notable member being Hattori Hanzō. Both the Iga and Koga provinces are considered the birthplace of ninjutsu. It was also the birthplace of haiku poet Matsuo Basho.
Iga / Koga ... looks like it's true at least these provinces did have ninja clans by these names. But no idea as far as their history as related to that of Tokugawa Ieyasu and Japanese politics.

More on Hattori Hanzō here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hattori_Hanz%C5%8D

I found this short character summary by DaQuestioner from stoptazmo-forums. It may help you to remember the names and/or abilities to discuss the characters further.

Will proceed in downloading Basilisk and Mizushou later this day or tomorrow
For now I just dropped by to tell you I have a high quality (tested) replica of High Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu's sword, a collector's item with a gold-filled tsuba Still, I envy the person who knows how to use the sword even if the don't own one

Great Anax, I have a feeling you might enjoy Basilisk.

Well, here's my chart ( I did all the faces in a rush, but it did the trick in helping me remember who's who =P )

Wow...I envy you a bit. I think those swords are really beautiful, even as decoration. Me and my friends bought a katana as a birthday present for one of my friends once. These things are just gorgeous.
And fighting with these swords is beautiful, too.

@GK: great chart! Very handy and clearly arranged.

@GK --> This chart is great GK, you'd be great at drawing chibi characters because you seem to be able to grasp the key points of each character and overemphasize them, while making such a cute, tiny drawing! That's great!

@Miso --> Well, the word "tested" in the parenthesis actually meant I-'ve-done-the-stupidest-things-that-sword-anything-a-true-samurai-would-never-and-under-no-circuimstances-do-and-after-all-that-the-sword-is-still-alive-and-slicing. More or less.
Apart from that I also "train" in a way every day, making small steps at re-inventing the basics of the basics of the basics without a teacher. =Þ

On Topic: I have an exam to take tomorrow and I'm not going to sleep (woke up at 19:30) so, at some point during the night I'll download the 5 volumes and read them! Then I'll come back here and comment away

    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

Ugh, I hate it when websites go suddenly down like that.

You can also download them at stoptazmo.com Anax. Actually it's just as well that you do because they have every chapter unlike the links I gave earlier. I'll edit my first post.

Edit: Ah, it was already in the post.

    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

Thank goodness this net cafe has two lines (still, at 1Mbps which is the max for a single line in Greece when in France it's like 20 </rant> ) and I downloaded (along with said friend) all the episodes in no time. Still, due to WoW, MH and all the other activities I'm involved in along with friends (hereafter mentioned as "stuff") I didn't have the time and the required eye-stamina.

So, far I've read the first 3 chapters and they look good!
My only dissapointment is how EVERYONE looks so twisted, demented, paranoid, schizofrenic and downright EVIL!

Spoiler: This is GK's bussiness & also contains spoilers show

    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

One of the most appealing things about Basilisk to most people is that there is no clear cut good or bad for all these characters - though I must admit the old-looking characters were kind of WAY too evil-looking!

But ah well they don't last long as you know

    Re: Basilisk Discussion Thread

I actually like how the characters are drawn. Some of them are not pretty but everyone is unique.

Considering the drawing style in general it is not bad in regards of skill IMO. Characters as well as backgrounds look well-composed and detailed to me. Plus Genesis' scanlations are top-notch so you get your fulles of the original artwork.
