If I got it well: "white fang" Vorg vs Ricardo Martinez and Ippo vs Wolrd Number 2.
Ippo will do his usual come-back KO routine & Vorg should normally (and unfortunately) lost badly.

Vorg fighting again is awesome, I also wnated to see Sendo fighting Martinez. Miyata will probably fight Ippo when he becomes the world champ.

I wonder how the Itagaki thing will go though. Will his rivalry with Ippo be kept a secret until the end?

But if Ippo goes for the world they will most likely never fight.

Vorg move up the weight so we don't know who he will be fighting still I hope get the championship in a brutal fight don't want Vorg to lose again just to hype the world stage champ

just caught up with hajime no ippo. the story is finally moving, apparently the author was just waiting to hit the 1000th chapter and 100th vol. I predict something big or a major change will happen on chapter 1000

I like how the author showed the harsh reality of world boxing in a foreign country with Vorg, in the last chapter. The manga is not going to deal with Ippo's match so soon, but anyway I'm not disappointed with the Vorg thing. I hope it's an interesting fight.

Re: Hajime no Ippo by Morikawa Jyoji

The series in in the middle of the best fight since Mashiba vs. Sawamura (and actually the current fight is very similar to that fight in a lot of ways), Ippo has a fight coming up that with a win will put him on a direct path towards a world title match, and there is actually potential for development for Aokimura (until we hear their next plans, we don't know. Their situation hasn't been close to resolved yet), yet the interest in Ippo is extremely low. /sigh

I am absolutely loving the current fight in the series, one of the best in the series in a very long time.

    Ignorance is bliss.

Re: Hajime no Ippo by Morikawa Jyoji

Indeed this fight is the best in a long time, and with Ippo going to the world stage, things have taken an exciting turn of events. The series has at last emerged from it's long boring period and I'm becoming much more interested in it. But at this point I feel like it has to go full speed ahead to keep the interest, if after this fight it starts dragging things out a lot once more (it most probably will to a certain point, it depends on how much) it will become quite boring again for me at least. This manga would have been best if it was a bit shorter. Here's hoping it will continue at an exciting pace and keep it's freshness!

The series has definitely dragged on and you could realistically cut out huge chunks of the series and it would markedly improve, but you can say that about each and every shonen series out there.

Re: Hajime no Ippo by Morikawa Jyoji

That's certainly true, but even among those long-running series Ippo's length particularly stands out (only a few manga can compare to it), and, mainly, for those long shonen series even if there is a lot of unnecessary stuff usually they manage to keep the hype, which I don't think Ippo did, and many times those unnecessary chunks are overall as good as important arcs (maybe not as good, but you see my point). Well, the most obvious example of this is of course One Piece, from which many arcs are not really necessary and could be cut off but the manga didn't lose quality in those parts. I guess it's also related to the fact that a big majority of these long series are big hits, and while Ippo is very well-known I don't think it ever attained the popularity of, let's say, Detective Conan or other series who stand a chance to it in length. The only counter example to this that comes to my mind right now is Kochikame, which is like an isolated case, which of course every japanese must know about since it's been there for a huuuuugely long time, but which never was a "hit", and it's nearly only popular with small kids, I imagine (plus, no popularity at all outside Japan and only 15 first chapters scanlated - I think after those they did some other 20 chapters starting from nº 500 or so, but anyway that's beyond the point).

Ok, so going back to the original point I think that unnecessary parts in Ippo are generally more boring than average unnecessary parts in others very long manga, mainly because every fight drags out a lot, even secondary fights, and there is little room for variation in a manga about boxing so every part long enough to be able to make it drag out is a fighting part, obviously. Also, since they are boxing fights so it's always the same kind of regulated fight, no much space for variation there either. Well, of course, my intention with this isn't to criticize Ippo at all, there are many manga worse than it and even with all this I'm interested in it .

Re: Hajime no Ippo by Morikawa Jyoji

I freaking loved the drawings by the other mangaka in chapter 1000! Inoue's is probably my favorite. Adachi and Miura's are both good and their notes are funny. But man, 1000 chapters is pretty crazy.
