I remember there being a chapter where Ichigo and Urahara are talking about the strength of Bankai (I believe it was during Renji's training w/ Urahara). Urahara then claims that his bankai "is different, and that it has no destructive capability." or something along those lines..

I don't know if it's what you're looking for (I don't remember about Ichigo and Urahara talking about bankai) but there is a passage which seems to be close to what you're talking about in chapter 224 (page 15) with Chad, Renji and Urahara. I will continue searching, just is case.

It's chapter 70, and the specific page would 16. Nothing is shown which implies that he cannot enter the Garganta.

So after doing extensive back reading, and wikipedia fueled research (which lead to MORE back reading, for verification purposes...) I have come to the conclusion... We can neither deny, nor confirm if Yoruichi was actually a captain in the Gotei 13. So... Let's debate!

Do you believe Yoruichi was an actual captain?
If so, why?
If no, then why not?

I'd love to hear what everyone's thoughts were on this one, as Tite Kubo's tendency to be vague regarding characters' pasts always bothered me, and this might serve as a bit of a consolation prize for myself, as well as others who feel the same way.

We know all of her former positions by now. She was the Commander of the Special Ops, former general of the Keigun Brigade of the First Division, and Leader of the Shihouin Clan. But she wasn't a captain--she was never even in the Gotei 13.

Not really a chapter request, but in the locked thread about Yoruichi's captaincy, someone claimed that Kubo had stated in Karaburi+ that she was not a captain.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to access this for verification like if it is posted somewhere online or if anyone knows someone who owns the book.
