It's not bad. It's very violent and have a lot of sex that's for sure.
Yeah, he can be irritating at time. I think the quote in the back cover best described him: he's a coward at times but he's brave the other times.
Yea it does get grim. The stuff in the beginning with Rat and Jarl. Jeez...It made me queasy a bit. Maybe because I was definitely not expecting it. My mind was in a "hey this fantasy, and the cover looks borderline young adult" frame. It reminded me of when I was once reading a Turtledove book and out of nowhere a main character is castrated. It was quite vivid. Not expecting certain things makes them all the more powerful imo....>.>

Did you get all three books then? I heard that the prequel wasn't that great.
The prequel is actually not part of the trilogy, its separate. Havent read it though. The series actually reminded me of mistborn in one way, it got progressively shitter and shitter. I dont know if was the writing, but I stopped caring about the characters and once that happens it becomes a real chore to trudge through. I stopped somewhere in the third one.
