    Need help with these sentences

What does 靜まりかけていた mean here? "quieted heart"

    Please check the sentence below:
    部屋に人ってきた刑事らしき男が『まだ検死が済んでないのでわかりませんが』と先に断ってから淡々と遺体の状況を述べる。
The detective-like man who came into the room, described the situation of the corpse indifferently, saying, "Because the autopsy isn't done yet, it's unknown."

Shinichi, who chose a university located in France, didn't have to leave
the house anymore once the holiday is over.

As soon as they were alone in the greenroom, he clung to Shinichi who was there for at least one more day, while crying.

Re: Need help with these sentences

Maybe you figured this out already, but anyway:

    一度は靜まりかけていた心臓の音が速まっていくのがわかった
He/She understood at once that the once calm sound of his/her heartbeat was speeding up.

I can't say for sure as I don't have the actual context, but I would say that in this sentence 靜まりかけていた should be translated as "once calm".

    ----

I can't be really sure, because of context issues again, but:

先に断ってから = 'after he got permission (in advance)', 'after he warned them (of his presence) (in advance)'

    ---

On today, the last day of the holidays'

is a double negative, so 'he had to leave the house', 'he couldn't stay inside any longer'

(Today, the last day of the holidays, he couldn't stay inside any longer.)

    ---

While crying

せめてもう一日いてくれ = stay with me for at least one more day

The と after いてくれ 'implies' that the person in question is saying something, considering the situation I would translate the と it with begging.

(While crying, he clung to Shinichi begging him to stay for at least one more day)

    ------

I hope it all makes sense. ^-^

断る is more like noting than warning here. To make it simple, you could just add "after" before "saying" in your sentence.
