I've only read some pages until now( I lack a lot of time to read things lately..) And I can say that I absolutely love Nausicaa's personality, she is in a level I rarely see in today's mangas.

Just tried searching for the movie... got to know that there are three versions :-

    1984 original - Japanese only
1985 international version - English - cut by 25 mins - called "Warriors of the Wind" in the USA
2005 uncut version with new English voices added

Got the 2005 one.. will start watching...

I want to say my special thanks to Ukimix. I've always known about nausicaa but never had the urge to read it, and ended up forgetting about it.
But now I see how big the mistake that was, because this manga completely and undoubtedly deserves the title of masterpiece ^^
And i've come to remember it because of you, so my sincere thanks =D

I know him and Jean Giraud are friends and the glider of Nausicaa reminds me a lot of the concrete gulls he draw in his comics, especially the one from Arzach:

But his style, anime or comic is really particular so that you immediately recognize he has made it.
This week, I had to put the priority on a French comic from one of my favorite author (I'm not disapointed he did something incredible once again) but now I'm ready to reread Nausicaa. I already had a look at the first chapter and the start in the forest reminds me that I will really enjoy it.

Okay, I really enjoyed that volume, full of intense and happenings and since I really want to know what happens next I'm off to volume 3.

It caught you! I'm in Vol 1 still. I like it, but I have watched the movie, so my eye stops in the differences, mainly. :-)

Yeah, actually it never caught me like this the first time I tried to read it. Mainly the reason I didn't continue 'til the end. All thanks to the collective reading I was forced to read it again, and maybe I could watch the movie now. I actually watched almost all of Miyazaki/Ghibli movies from Cagliostro to Arriety but skipped Nausicaa since I promised I'll read the manga first.

I do love Miyazaki. I have had several avatars related to him. Shihiro and Howal's Castle are among my favorites movies.

Shihiro, you mean Spirited Away, right? Yeah, I liked that one too but I think my personal favorites are Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service and Grave of the Fireflies. And Pom Poko, I think. I loved Howl's visual elements but got kinda lost with the story, I dunno a rewatch might be needed. Anyways, this is getting a bit off topic so I'll go search for that Studio Ghibli thread instead.

I watched Spirited Away when I was a kid, and I can say that some parts of it are pretty heavy for a kid xD

All of Miyazaki´s movies have underlying themes that would transcend a child´s mind. That´s, among other things, the genius of Miyazaki, that he can integrate such essential themes such as Politics, Pacifism, Environmentalism, as well as even Feminism (not insinuated in a negative way) in such a child-friendly way.

Well there's really not much to say about the plot for now since volume 1 to me feels like just an introduction so I'll leave that for now. Off to volume 2!
Spoiler: Some notes on Volume 1 show
