From the way some manga draw SJ it looks pretty thick. How many pages are there?
Aside from manga what else can you find in a typical release of SJ or is it just the manga and maybe their merchandise?
And the price is 250 yen?

An issue tends to be about 500 pages. The magazine opens up with some color pages regarding merchandise (video games, card games, tankobons) this also includes Jump SQ series. They also have some pages dedicated to non Jump related video games. Then the manga starts to show up. Towards the end of the magazine there's some orange-shaded pages regarding upcoming episodes for Jump anime, as well as some more merchandise stuff (mostly figurines), and an advertisement for the next Jump issue. After the manga ends there's some more pages that I can't really understand, it mostly has some short gag strips, then the double page advertisement for the next issue and finally the author comments/ToC.

And yes, it is 250 yen.

    Jump Issue #25 Information
    END: Rookie Policewoman Kiruko-san

Kiruko's final chapter had a message that's a little different than all the other ones that I've seen before.

Instead of the usual "Thank you for the support. Please look foward to xxx-sensei's next series. The final volume will be released on xxx xxx", Kiruko''s final message final message is:

    Quote Quote:
"Thank you for the support. Please look foward to Hirakata-sensei's new series... but before that, Kiruko still has a little job to do?!
For further information please check out Rookie Policewoman Kiruko-san volume 3 scheduled to release July 4th, and the official Jump website"

that kiruko news is particularly interesting when you consider how it can't just be a pre-serial one shot, seeing as that was the kiruko-less Double Bullet, if i'm rememering correctly. a web chapter or soething, perhaps?

Thats quite cheap! The price of ream of a4 paper here for 500 pages. They use recycled paper? Do they have other ads aside from their own merchandise.

French scanlation for Iron Knight, One Shot from Jump VS

    http://mfteam.fr/vf-one-shot-iron-knight-du-jump-vs/

Iron Knith is a one shot acclaimed by the japanese and great chance to become a Shonen Jump manga in few month.

Usually the ads have some relation but there are ones for just general things too.

And I don't know about recycled, but the paper is horrific. Like telephone book paper. Just... Utter shite, really.

Kuroko's Basketball, Assassination Classroom's 1st Books Each Top 1 Million Copies in Print

    Quote Quote:
The first volume of Tadatoshi Fujimaki's Kuroko's Basketball manga now has over one million copies in print. The manga began in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2008, and the 22 current volumes have over 19 million copies in print. Shueisha gave the first volume an initial print run of 50,000 copies in April 2009.

Nobuo Sumino, the head of Shueisha's comics and contents sales department, reported in The Tsukuru magazine in April that the next volume of the original manga could have a print run of more than 1 million copies in August, thanks to the anime's current rerun and the new season this fall.
Yusei Matsui's first Assassination Classroom manga volume also topped one million copies in print, even though it just debuted last November and has no anime or live-action adaptation announcements. Matsui (Neuro - Supernatural Detective) launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump last July. The first volume's initial print run was 300,000, but it has had several reprints including this month's reprint that pushed it over 1 million.

It is printed on what amounts to toilet paper. All manga magazines are printed on cheap, low quality paper.

also its a different kind of use. takoubons would be keept and those magazines read on the train, throw away in the trash. it's just a cheap form of entertainment.

My main annoyance is that while magazines are considered a throaway item, they don't always reproduce the color pages in the tankobons and some of the covers.

Yes, it's recycled paper. There's a lot of inconsistency with the shade of the paper as a result. Not sure if it's still like this, but pages would vary from yellow, green, and pink in tint. The ink used is horribad as well.

And all of this is just really unfortunate considering the high quality and sheer beauty of the originally used manuscript paper and ink.

Oh well, at least the tankobon try tomake up for it, though it sucks they generally don't have colored pages...
