The manga, the anime ends in filler. Well you can watch the anime and then start with chapter 90 in the manga, but I would prefer starting with the manga from the start. There are some slight differences.

Re: question about where to start

I started with the anime and absolutely loved it.

After that I went back and read the manga from the start and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. Whatever you decide I wouldn't recommend using the anime as a head start... there are too many dissimilarities.

Re: question about where to start

I started with the anime and loved it. It got me interested in the manga. But now I find the anime worse and worse so more I watch it, especially after I read the manga. But I still love the music and Nishi's rant.
The anime is a good start, but slightly different than the manga and has a ending. The manga is still not finished yet, but way better than the anime.

to tell you the truth, i actually started with the movie. the first one, then i got hooked.
i am now on chapter 14 as i write this.

now my question is, from what chapter did the first movie end?
chapter 14 contains the onion alien and i kinda know what happens...

I would stick with the manga if I were you. The movie actually completely rewrites missions 2 and 3, including the removal of several key characters.

Re: question about where to start

Well, if you saw both movies then go for the anime first and see it from the very beggining.

After you saw all episodes, read the manga from the beggining too...they all have their own stuff.

Re: question about where to start

I think you should start with the manga because the anime fails to represent what makes Gantz unique: The bloody scenes and fights.

Re: question about where to start

I started with the anime cause I saw a anime R rated and was oooOOoo looked at back of case saw alien and a hand (the gantz transfer) then thought this will be interesting. I really liked it because it was so different to other animes and realistic. It had a chilling feeling too the manga does too until you get to like volume 22.

Manga Berserk, Gantz, Rurouni Kenshin, Claymore<3 Fav Anime FMAB! Gundam seed, Nana, InitialD.

Re: question about where to start

Actually the anime expands on some characters like Tetsu and make them more sympathetic.

Anyway watch the anime with the filler ending and then start on the manga from the start.

The filler ending is special in it's own way.

And then you can compare and continue with the manga.

If you can, avoid the films. A lot of chopping and changing, and the dub was horrible.
    Reading is a good habit.
