They're also not players we fought off a lot of competition for. They aren't world class players.

Given that European money is allocated by the place you finished in the league, 4th isn't quite the trophy that Wenger makes it out to be. You get a good amount less money than 3rd does and quite a lot less than the Champion does.

However, with the new tv deal for the Premier League, the money that comes in from the CL mainly just helps you club buy better players (so it'll be important to the top, top cubs), but otherwise, it's now less relevant than it was in the past because every club will have more money to spend.
It's not about the amount of money relative to the champions or 3rd, its about the amount of money relative to 5th. And the champions league money is really important, most clubs dont make a profit and they barely break even, Arsenal is one of the few clubs to make a profit even with its high interest (around 15-20 mil a year). Take the CL money out of the equation and you are in the red digging into your reserves or borrowing more. Not really sustainable in the long run.

Exactly. I didn't see any other suitors for Podolski or Giroud last summer.

Of course being in the CL is vital, but you know what I'm saying. You need to be in the CL every season, basically, but the extra money that will be available to every Premier League club with the new tv deal with definitely help. I have to wonder if there's really money for Wenger to spend or if it's a combination of money from the CL, money earned from selling players, but primarily, the money will come from the new tv deal.

Arsenal only make a profit because they sell players every year. That's not completely true, but Arsenal also aren't spending vast amounts on a single player, which saves money.

Did you know that Chelsea made a profit for last fiscal year? Of course, that doesn't include the purchases of Hazard or Oscar. :P

They haven't won a trophy in years, but they maintain CL spots every season, make stars for other clubs to buy () and play some very good football most times. Wenger is a boss

I am not a Benfica supporter, i support Porto. I just wanted them to win, and i think overall if anyone had to win it would be Benfica. At the first half, they were clearly superior. Second Half was a lot more disputed, but still ... i think Benfica was better, and they should had won.

Benfica is prolly gonna loose the League when no one thought that would be the case, they know lost the Europe League. They still have their chances for the Portugal's Cup. But last 2 games, they lost them at the last minutes (Porto and now Chelsea). Must be really frustrating!

    Ah, all right.

In the first half, Benfica were better and our players looked really tired. In the second half, we played better and deserved to win.

Yeah, Benfica are going to lose the league as well. I don't know if they'll be up for the Portuguese Cup at this rate.

At the end of the day Chelsea won, jorped. Benfica was really bad at taking their chances, Chelsea were better. Also yeah, it's probably a very sad moment to be a Benfica fan.

Right, so we became the fourth club to collect the complete set of European trophies.

Now think about this one and have a laugh.

played better ? deserved to win?
benfica was superior in this game, also in the 2nd half and they "deserved to win" (cuz u never can say the winner didnt deserve it)
like DD said, they sucked at taking their chances, while chelsea like in last years CL competition were ice-cold in the offense, which makes it a deserved title/win
still they play an ugly football and let themselves be dominated by most top-teams,which shouldnt be a way a team like chelsea should play

The whole concept of the cup is stupid "oh, you weren't as good as the top teams and failed terribly in the Champions League? ok, take a chance to win a cup"

Well, the idea that the third placed clubs in the CL group stages should end up in the Europa League is idiotic in the first place. For most clubs in the Europa League, it's a chance to get glory that they might otherwise never get because either they can't qualify for the CL or they're not strong enough to do well in the CL.

This season's Europa League Final featured two clubs who had dropped out of the CL in the group stages.
