Pato and Ronaldinho have been playing horribly in our not-so-good domestic soccer, no one was even thinking of them. Same to Kaka and Robinho.
It's laughable, to say the least. Miranda has been Atlético's hero so far in this season, lol (and Filipe Luis has been a MVP in the BBVA the last 2 years... but sure call Maxwell). Not calling Moura (who was called recently) nor Coutinho instead of Oscar is ridiculous too.

I always asked my dad growing up (and saw it on different sports) but I couldn't remember a football case ^^

And yeah, I know how terrible they are, but it's always interesting to note how they weren't called, lol.

I think Miranda should've definitely been called.
But what makes me laugh is the midfield.
Luiz Gustavo, Ramires, Paulinho called and Leiva, Moura, Coutinho left out???
Oscar have to be there. He had had a few bad games also injured. If he's fit, he should be called. He chases the ball down and wins back position a lot.

Btw, how they're gonna play?? I think Scolari would pick this line-up.
    ------------------------------Cesar--------------------------------
    Alves--------------Luiz-----------------Silva-----------Marcelo
    ---------------------Paulinho--------Fernandinho-------------
    Bernard-------------------Oscar/Willian---------------Neymer
    --------------------------------Hulk/Fred---------------------------

    Re: The Football/Soccer Thread v3

Pele weighed in, saying Robinho and Pato (I think) should be in the squad. I don't think any Brazilians care to listen to him, and Scolari neither.

Anyway, looks like the Premier League is pretty much decided after Man City's 4-0 victory over Aston Villa; scoring their 100th league goal. Tough on Liverpool, as they've had a brilliant season but difficult to see anyone but Kompany lifting that title now.

Madrid then missed a chance to close the gap at the top of the league and with that, it's all on Atletico's to lose now...

    Pato is Diaby's brother.
And Robiho have been poor this season just like Milan.

Athletico might win doubles. This is the best Athletico I've seen.
They had Torres, sold him. They got Aguero & Forlan.
They had Aguero & Forlan, sold them. They got Falcao.
They had Falcao, sold him. They developed Diego Costa into a World Class striker.
They always manage to get a gem striker.

I've heard Chelsea is trying to get Costa. Chelsea need to be careful while buying strikers.
They turned Ballon d'or winner Shevchenko into a Emile Heskey
Torres into Chamakh, Crespo into Carlton Cole.
I don't understand one thing about Chelsea. After playing 6 specialist defenders, how can their striker concede penalty????
    Mother of defense.

That's the team of the Confederations Cup, and it'll probably begin the WC. Agree that Fernandinho and William should be starters

I can't understand you guys wanting Lucas Leiva hahaha
Lucas Moura had all the chances he could ask for, and never played well in the national team.
Coutinho is good, but not enough to be a starter.

Honestly, I think that Oscar was trying not to get hurt in the end of the season, that's why his football level declined, he's pretty good imho

I'm hoping that Atletico Madrid will win La Liga, it gets boring when only barça and real can fight for the title

Hulk/Fred ... So, basically the weakest striker for Brazil at a world cup in more than 30 years. Not that those two are weak but after Romario, Bebeto, Ronaldo,... It will not be easy for them to match expectations.

It seems no one wants to win La Liga.

    Re: The Football/Soccer Thread v3

Barcelona blew their chance of winning it....against Elche? really? That just goes to show what sort of season they've had and that they don't really deserve the championship. Atletico I think were hit with nerves earlier on in their match, they had a lot of chances but just weren't clinical in front of goal but the opposition's keeper made some brilliant saves to keep them level and while A.Madrid were also trailing.

I guess for the neutral, you would've wanted it to come down to the wire; Barca have to beat Atletico this time to win the league. If the latter play the same way they've played against the Catalans this season, then the league is there.

Madrid were humbled last night, not a good string of results leading to their champions league final....

    Re: The Football/Soccer Thread v3

From the top of might head, this year Atletico didn't beat Osasuna and Almeria (teams that are usually in the 2nd half of the BBVA), and they only got a tie against Barcelona in Madrid. They don't deserve it either then I guess?

---------- Post added at 09:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 AM ----------

Also... now that I think about it, if Barcelona had won their match they'd still need to win against Atletico in the last match, so it doesn't change anything.

England squad is out. Good squad, it should be a comfortable win in the summer.

On paper, they always have good stuff. On the field, they didn't win anything ever (aside from the 66 world cup that was handled to them)

Who cares if it's the oldest or not. It's worth like half EPL. It's the equivalent to Spain's Copa del Rey, do you think Real Madrid fans are gonna be happy if they end up winning just that?

Maybe I'm just looking at it from the Southamerican pov, local cups don't mean a crap here (to the point that it wasn't played for like 20 years).
