Lots of times in shounen the main characters under 18 and somehow become one of the strongest in the world before their 21st birthday. I hate that. Becoming strong should be something that takes years and years of effort. Which is one of the reasons I like Toriko so much. Toriko and Komatsu are probably around 26 years old now and it's pretty clear with how old most of the big timers are that how long you've been in the game is a very important factor.
Yeah ofc. We already have plenty 15 - 18 years old MC in Shounen mangas (Naroto/Luffy/Chigo/etc) and sometimes it's good to have an adult MC as well..
Hallajeluah. A cool point that you made really. It shows great power gaps in everybody and signs of wisdom. But one thing that bugs me is the fact that the older people's true power hasn't been shown yet, such as Ichiryu, Midora, Jirou, Acacia and bla. Excuse me for spelling those names incorrectly, if I didn't spell them correctly .
I like the fact that he is strong, smart, and has common sense. We rarely see that in anime now.
With age comes more strenght, is not an uncommen thing in manga. But its indeed great to see that its not starting from age 16 till fullpower at 21 or so. So if toriko will be 40 he is much stronger then he is now.
But my question is: Will he get as old as Ichi or Setsuno. Second question do the normal humans get too a higher age aswell? (because of the great food they eat). Or is it bound of having Groumet Cell in your body? As the G7 and few of Neo members look really old and then some of IGO chefs and pple
I think Elg put this into perspective for us a bit. He was bragging about being ancient at "only" 200 years old, and he was generally a nobody without his horse half. His "immortality" was what got him to that age, so it is safe to say that normal humans live normal lifespans. They can eat great foods but only those who with gourmet cells who eat the greatest foods and maintain a ridiculous level of power can hope to live as long as someone like Ichiryu, Jirou, or Midora. I suppose it is a level of willpower to live, combined with a bit of arbitrariness of aging in this manga and I think that is what makes it ok that Toriko and Komatsu are not teenagers.
Im already thankful we have an MC thats not a wimp, emo, always getting kicked by girls, dumb, weak, like most stereotype mc in shounen. Especially hate if they have the power but dont want the responsibility for it
The only thing that bugs me about him being an adult when the series started is that he seems to be too weak at that time.
I've said this before, at the start of the manga, he had a hard time beating a level 5 Galala Croc. And then after just a few years, he suddenly defeated a level 120+ monster.
agreed with bonifide.
I´m also beyond tired of the story where the random kid/teenager gets powers outta nowhere and beats foes way older and more experienced than them on their first try.
Yes great that the main characters are older than normal, they know how to enjoy life more.
