The movie was only released a few days ago. Box office tallies have not been released yet. Once available, they will be posted here: http://boxofficemojo.com/intl/japan/

Home video release will not be for at least six more months. Do not expect even a release date posted until after the movie is done in theaters. I doubt release date will be posted until at least March, maybe not even until April, with BD/DVD coming out over the summer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Last Mission box office has been leaked, and it is ugly. Last Mission sold 130,993 tickets for ¥158,031,050 (about $1,515,000) on 258 screens. In comparisons, last years Gekijouban Hunter × Hunter sold 357,976 tickets for ¥469,845,098 (about $5,268,503) on 257 screens. That is a difference of over 200,000 tickets and ¥300,000,000.

I hate to be the bringer of good news that could be wrong but one of the posters in the comments section said this:

    "Please take note:
    1. This data doesn't include sales on Friday, December 27, 2013 (Premiere day).
    https://twitter.com/moviewalker_bce...41195906396160

    2. eiga.com just reported more up-to-date box office data (for the week ending on Sunday, January 5, 2014):
    http://archive.is/Au4Wj
It reports for The Last Mission 485716 admissions and 573,954,750 yen box office (total)."

This should place the movie roughly 100k yen above Phantom Rogue. Can someone please confirm this information?

^Comparatively, at this point Phantom Rouge stills selled more. 884,494,606 Yen total in its 2nd week-end. There is still the 300 millions difference.
But depending if it's more stable than Phantom Rouge on the next weeks, it could still sells more at the end of the exploitation.

Hm? But that 570k statistic for the Last Mission was how much the first movie earned for its first week. The second week earnings for Last Mission still have to be posted (and the second week is still far from over). Phantom Rogue sold 470k during its first week while Last Mission sold 570k during its first week, so so far, the Last Mission is doing better. Unless I'm getting something wrong here..

    That's the 2nd week-end included.

For its 2nd week-end, Phantom Rouge made 880 millions in total.

Damn! I hope Madhouse got enough out of it.

During it's third weekend HxH Last Mission raked in $499,077 for a gross total of $6,624,333. I know this is bad but can someone tell me if it's bad enough that Madhouse might actually lose money from this flop? Or are the earnings good enough to propel the show well until the end of the arc?

This is bad if you compare it to the first movie. But let's not exaggerate. A lots of anime movies don't even make that in all of their exploitation.
For me, it seems very unlikely that they will lost money from it. From the trailers, it doesn't seems like a very high budget project to begin with.

How does the budget seem, compared with Phantom Rouge?

Not sure, but I can tell you the animation was dramatically worse than Phantom Rouge and the TV series.

Characters were off model the majority of the time -- only during fights were they really on. It was quite depressing

Excellent. In the face of a flop, that's very good news.

Haha! I don't care if it was bad during the non-fights, then. People were complaining about the badly animated fights in Phantom Rouge for the most part, anyway. (As little as there might have been.) This signifies that it must have not been much of a loss in the box office, which is a big concern.

CD singles for Hyouri Ittai are also selling well. So that should give Madhouse another boost.

Nice to see HxH has become so popular & still going strong. When the fansubs came out in 2001, it never really drew much attention. Of course you still had to get subs of VHS & DVD back then.

Kurapika never has been & never will be a girl. I can understand mistaking Kalluto (crossdresser), Neferpitou (hermaphrodite), & Alluka (transgender) for girls, but not Kurapika.

Speaking of Togashi's love for LGBT topics, Phantom Rogue was 100% pure pandering to yaoi fangirls from beginning to end, not unlike the 2ed season of shounen anime Kuroshitsuji. Also apparently onboard with the Creepypasta meme.

Admittedly, the fight scenes were disappointing....Those dolls don't bleed when you hit them & the fight scenes could have been a lot longer. The background art was landscape eyecandy, but I'm not going to pretend that the characters weren't a little off-model at times. http://images6.fanpop.com/image/phot...41-300-301.png

All of the new characters for Last Mission are male & bishounen. Color me unsurprised.

How many times during the Yorkshin Arc did Kurapika tell his friends that he'd die if he used that technique on anyone outside of the Genei Ryodan?

Both movies will be canon to the 2011 anime, like how the filler episodes that didn't happen in the manga were canon to the 1999 anime. The live action musicals weren't canon to anything though......They should make more of those. I won't be surprised if the animated series continues on past the 13th Chairman Election Arc, despite lack of source material to work off of.
