The MMA fighting style is present through the manga but I would've preferred 100% MMA style cause when the main chara kiichi gets beaten the crap out of & come out with a nadashinkage technique then win.... well yeah.
Overall, I like the mood of the story, the opposants Kiichi face almost all possess a dramatic backstory, like for example my favorite character Jet:
Deaf, mute and orphan in the streets, now this is a sad background.
The characters are not much developed, as for comparison's sake I'd chose All Rounder Meguru for a more realistic depiction of Pancrase/MMA, I've yet to check on Grappler Baki or Hajime No Ippo.
@ Wei - thanks for the recs, the last four has peeked my interests. I'll check them out~! Thanks<3.
That back in time one - seems really interesting.
The Red Dog- I see. That would be something I would be really interest in 6 or 8 years ago. Because I would read things like Teppei (from my avatar about kendo), or Saint Seiya, or Kattobi Itto. The art of the series you mentioned remind me of those series, it felt classic and from another era xD
btw, red dog, check out http://theonepace.wordpress.com/ They fix the stupid pacing of One Piece.
If you are into mythology, you probably know about Journey to the West and the story of the Monkey King.
At that setting, most of the gods are already in place. The collection of myths before that or the creation of gods is from this story
If you play warrior Orochi, you would be familiar with some of the characters such as Daji, Nezha, Taigong Wang
I think from this story that the mandate of heaven came to play in chinese philosophy as one of the earliest dynasty (pre Qin- the earliest empire) the Shang fell and the rise of the Zhou dynasty. Demons and Gods pick both sides of the court. While Daji, one of the most beautiful women in the ancient word, created political turmoil.
This version stuck to the original mythology. Which meant there is no central protagonist, which is fairly annoying. I don't recommended it unless you are interested in the origin of myths.
This version is an older one, it stick to a focal main character, Nezha, the original Peach boy.
It is quite heartbreaking a few time, dealing with the frustration that is know as Confucian society. Nezha's mother is one of the best maternal figure in fiction T___T
But up course, it is a collection of stories it isn't as clear as the four classic ancient literature.
Speaking of the 4 classics, beside Journey to the West, Water Margin is the manliest one. This series too has a focus problem.
2011 version of this is All men are brothers
The story is about 108 outlaws. It is interesting enough to check out if you are bore. But not that great.
But my favorite is the Three Kingdoms, the politic of the three kingdoms is awesome. If you are a fan of Ravages of time and Dynasty Warriors. You should check that out.
Yeah I like the older settings with the mytholgy type I guess.
