Art equals expression, an expression creating an outer form, expressing joy, sorrow, and the darkness of the soul. Yutou Riro is a student at an art college, but she believes she lacks the talent to truly succeed as an artist. Entering her life through a series of coincidences is Karaba Jo. To Riro's astonishment, Jo has an exceptional ability to draw the "real" self of the people/object he draws. His artwork draws attention to the finest details of his subject, bringing to light the truth behind each individual.

I enjoyed the first chapter. It seems this series is only four volumes. I like that. Short and (hopefully)sweet. Being about art, I'm looking forward to seeing some great art from the mangaka himself. The volume covers are really eye catching. I wonder if he uses a computer or if his stuff is hand drawn?
Same here, I was amazed by the artwork; It is magnificent and what attracted me at the first place. I'm guessing maybe the story later on progress into how the female protagonist would be brave in pursuing her passion. Didn't realize it only has 4 volumes but if that's what it takes to be great then I don't mind at all.
EDIT : I was kinda surprised this manga is made by Tetsuya.

Same here, with the covers and Mr Prince recommendations, I was looking for its translation. It's hard to get an idea from this first chapter alone though.
Not really, it's just that this sequence was very impressive visually. Maybe you can wait until the manga is finished scanlated if you don't want to be frustrated.
From what I've read so far, Gokusai is a manga which focus is about the art in per se, either it's an artistic sense or philosophical, rather than revolving the plot around characters. The art has been consistently great and so realistic.
I LOVE it, I can not believe I have not seen this manga till now, just glimpsed it in the one page suggestion thread by k-dom.^ It really has a strong beginning, too bad so little chapters are scanned. The raws show that we go further into the development of art and the characters along with it. I want to see more. D:
