The spear is slow as heck, if you get hit at maximum range it's kinda silly. I admit it's difficult to see during team fights, but that said, adc does a similar job anyway behind the front line, I mean, couldn't you treat her as you would for an adc?
Probably Kog'maw aside, no adc has such a long ranged poke. Cait Q and Varus Q are the best, if I'm not missing out on something obvious, which are on higher cooldowns. So, not the best comparison if you ask me.
Kinda getting the overall point, anyway. Unless she gets a rework, she'll either stay as she is or get nerfed into something completely useless.
Cait and Varus cut through waves, Nidaspears don't. The times when they mainly get spammed are when you're sieging the other team or trying to trade in the middle of the map, and Nidaspears probably wouldn't be a priority concern by then (a max ranged hit does signal an initiation, but as long as they aren't too far behind I think it's fine. ADC behind should have clear view of incoming spears, and if it goes into the fray the tanks would probably get in the way and soak up the damage, anything worse shouldn't be a Nidaproblem in the first place anyway...)
Nidaspear is really ironic now that I think about it. Once you get scared if she approaches and you try to run away, you're kinda digging your own grave. Fact is, sidestepping the spear to dodge it, and Cougarlee won't have anything against you. The Cougar combo is not enough to take you out. Nidaspears hate aiming at champs down a straight path because the spear is slow and predictable, only good for taking out noobs like me because inside of taking the time to sidestep they think they could outrun the spear, hence more damage.
If you see Nidalee trying to go off to the side when laning, you know a spear could be coming your way since she's probably trying to get around the minions for that to reach you. In this sense it isn't too fearsome if anyone had kept an eye out, since that's the only thing she has. I'd say, the more scared you are (hence keeping further distance,) the worse it is. Bot Nidalee and her traps in brushes are just to scare you, I see people (usually the supports trying to hide in the brush) panic once they step on a trap, and it's so easy to predict where they're gonna try to run for my spear to hit them. The curvature around the brush is very nice for Nidaspear too. Best thing against Nidabot is to stay away from the brush all together, or just ward the brush so you can see a Nidapose going for a spear, and avoiding spears won't be hell...
Most importantly, pre-6 Nidalee is weak as hell, QWE mana cost is high, heal doesn't work, AS from heal is kinda useless during nonchalant laning except for one or two cs, spears can't get through, traps have high cooldown. Shutting down Nidalee early to prevent her getting big on AP or building MR yourself means useless spears early/mid game, and she'll just be a cougar pouncing around the map being annoying but weak, and an easy kill. Fact My Guess: Most Nidalees die as cougars lol, probably trying to pounce away because her defense is useless. At 6, the most she could do is flash-ignite-pounce-swipe, transform back and spear you while you're trying to run away. She only throws her spears to scare you, (attempting to) deny you from cs because you fear her spears, and wait for you come in front of your minions. Right after the spear you have 6 seconds to do all your cs-ing, or close in and cc her if you go aggro. Of course I'm speaking as a noob. Either I'm finding Nidalee linear, or I'm missing her other potential.
They do, but the damage gets trimmed. If it goes through a wave to hit you, that won't deal a ton of damage. Oh well, it can, if they have stomped and have levels on you.
Nida spears is the reason carries have to escape from a fight after taking some damage. Even when you are winning a fight, she goes cougar, disappears in a brush and sends a random spear in your direction. If you are three guys chasing all with modest hp numbers, one of you will be in danger. And yeah, don't chase her would be a good advice, but you know, and everyone knows, you chase a Nidalee. Just like you chase a Teemo and you chase a Singed. At least, you chase, if you are playing for fun (fun as I understand the word, everyone's fun concept is different), since they are annoying.
Hence I'm with scav in this one. I wouldn't be bothered if Nida became another Olaf. You are five people in a team. Even if you dodge all the spears, someone will get hit and die from it randomly, since you can't have the entire map warded.
Objectively speaking I can't disagree at all. I think what most people think the problem lies in her no risk high reward Q. In that case, they really should fix it, but the question is how... I do hope she gets something in return, otherwise her human form damage output might as well be worse than Sona's.
