Is it possible that titans are so totally, single-mindedly obsessed with eating humans because they are looking for a controller / pilot?
Perhaps consuming a human who is strong-willed enough means they 'fuse' or merge with that human, so the human doesn't just die, the titan can become their 'host'?
The only problem with this I suppose is that titans will often rip a human apart with their teeth and chew them before swallowing, which kills the human.
Ymir was a titan, eats B&R's companion, then becomes a human who can shift into titan form at will.
Eren effectively hijacks the body of the titan that eats him (in the stomach, he looks around at the partially-digested human remains and through sheer force of will, takes command of the titan).
Also, after fighting & defeating Annie, Eren tries to fuse with her.
The fact that standard titans don't eat to satiate hunger is also a creepy detail--they vomit up balls of undigested bits of human they've eaten when there's no room left in their stomachs. Why EAT humans at all? why not just killed them? There's something significant about eating...

I'll tell you why Titans eat humans. Would you rather see your friend get killed by a one-hit-kill, or eaten alive? I'd prefer the first. It may seem random and gruesome at first, but it's a very good tactic to crush humanity's morale. Titans are stupid, yet unpredictable, and to quote Sun Tzu's Art of War "Simulated disorde postulates perfect discipline". If you are up-to-date with the manga, you will surely have noticed that the phrase "the true enemy" is repeated time after time. My hypothesis is that Titans are controlled by this true enemy, who- or whatever it is.Quote:
Definitely see your point, the titans aren't just child-like and benign creatures that also just so happen to swallow people--their actions seem very deliberate, but at the same time totally without sense or reason. They're not 'animal', they're almost machines, but there's something about them that is worse than a killing machine, that child-like element. It's very creepy. Whatever is controlling them must really, really, really hate humans. That much we can be sure of.
