    Torne Anime DVR Rankings

Sony has published their rankings for the anime most downloaded in the Tokyo area to their Torne DVR kit for PS3 from September 30 - November 2. These are not national ranks, and only account for recordings using Sony equipments. Though by no means definitive, it is a nice look at what is popular this season. Manten, a Japanese entertainment site, posts Torne rankings every week. This is the first time ANN has translated them to English.

    September 30 - November 2
    1. Kill la Kill
    2. Monogatari Series Second Season
    3. Kyoukai no Kanata
    4. Outbreak Company
    5. Kyousogiga
    6. Galilei Donna
    7. Infinite Stratos 2
    8. Strike the Blood
    9. Nagi no Asukara
    10. Unbreakable Machine-Doll
    11. Yusibu
    12. Golden Time
    13. Yowamushi Pedal
    14. Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!
    15. Yozakura Quartet ~Hana no Uta~
    16. Valvrave 2
    17. Non Non Biyori
    18. Freezing Vibrations
    19. Tokyo Ravens
    20. Arpeggio

Kill la Kill seems to be getting more popular as the season progresses, with number of recordings rising every episode.

    Re: Torne Anime DVR Rankings

I wonder what this means or would translate too for predicting popularity of discs sales, will Kill la kill be the best selling anime on disc

Sad for Tokyo Ravens, it deserves more IMO, and Valvrave2 as well (Though I think that did like 8K average discs sales last season).

In any event, surprised Yowapeda is there but no Ace of Diamond. Maybe everyone is watching it live...

    Re: Torne Anime DVR Rankings

I missed Non Non Biyori, added at 17.

Kill la Kill was very heavily promoted before airing. It's popularity is not much of a surprise. Same with Kyoukai no Kanata. Do not forget that this ranking includes less than half of this seasons new anime. Being low on the list is still good, there are about 20 new series not even ranked. Non Non Biyori is "only" ranked 17, but the publisher has already announced that all six volumes of the manga have had reprints, due to the popularity of the anime. I don't know how much of a correlation this listing will have to BD/DVD sales. Remember that scales are heavily skewed towards titles that fans are willing to spend $60 - 80 for two episodes. IS2 has already had a BD sell more than 20,000 copies, the special edition of episode one that is currently charting. Galilei Donna is ranked ahead of it here, but I don't think there is much chance it's sales equal IS2's. I do think these rankings are a good general indicator of popularity, I don't think they are direct, hierarchical rankings.

Diamond no Ace airs from 8:30 - 9am on Saturdays. It airs at a reasonable time of day, there is less of a need to record.

    Impossible for Mahou Sensou.

Cant believe Hamatora nor Buddycom is up there.

    Re: Torne Anime DVR Rankings

Buddy Complex is 13. This should only reflect the first episode. Hamatora is not getting very much attention, in general, at least not yet. At this point last season I would have said the same about Arpeggio, and that ended up being one of the most popular new series. I wasn't impressed by Hamatora, but I wasn't impressed by Arpeggio either. Both happen to be by the same well known director. I do like Mahou Sensou, but am a little shocked to see it ahead of Nisekoi, Chuu2 Ren, and Hoozuki.

    Re: Torne Anime DVR Rankings

Some of the fall two cour stuff fell off like Tokyo Ravens and Strike the Blood. Though Yowapeda still on.

    Re: Torne Anime DVR Rankings

Most of the two cour anime from last fall did not do well. Kill la Kill was the only sizable hit from the group. Yowapeda, Strike the Blood, and Log Horizon have had some success. The former might be getting a little extra attention right now. They have been advertising the start of the Interhigh for the anime, and advertising the upcoming stage play. Tokyo Ravens, Golden Time, and Nagi Asu did not do terrible, but they did not do particularly well either. Samurai Flamenco did very poorly. Except Kill la Kill, the most popular shows from the fall were one cour. Kill la Kill, Arpeggio, IS2, Little Busters Refrain, and Non Non Biyori were the big hits. Fall was the least popular season of 2013.
