My hopes for the new year are exactly the same- look at my sig for that.
My belief? Uh... Kishi has something planned that will rival Naruto vs. Sasuke at VotE, as far as emotional/artistic/storytelling merit. I haven't given up yet, at least.
My hopes ? That the series ends quickly. It's been painful to watch it slowly decay.
Expectations ? Not many. More asspulls and talk-no-jutsus, I guess.
I think the series should just end as one of the greatest of all time since it long achieved this status since before Naruto VS Pein.
As a fan of this series since 2006, its pretty painful watching the ass-pulls we've had thus far.
The way in which the ONE female lead character was constantly set up for great things and then completely flunking it to the point more than half of the Naruto fandom hate Sakura.
The fact that the main goal to the story which was "Becoming Hokage" has now become distantly blurry since the main character hasn't tried to become Hokage since Sasuke left the village right through until now.
He is a Genin who knows ZERO Genjutsu or Fuinjutsu(Seal techniques). He knows little Taijutsu and not much Ninjutsu outside of Shadow Clones and Rasenganesque moves and lastly he knows little Senjutsu outside of his Rasenganesque moves.
What do I expect? More Naruto and Sasuke mentioning their emotions all the time, talk-no-jutsu's and plot-no-jutsu's of course.
I expect another key death, more random outsider comments from the rest of the main cast like...
Shikamaru Nara who if we remember at Part I was extremely promising and after Hidan suddenly stopped getting stronger, He's now gonna continuously say "I must support Naruto, since we've always relied on him" etc.
I expect as usual little character development since that's been the norm for the last couple years.
But as awful as the World War has been, like everyone else, I've been reading this for way too many years to not see how it ends.
I also expect NaruSaku, sorry to sound "blasphemous" hahaha.
My hope is that it doesn't end this year. I want Naruto to end on a high note, and this...is not that note.
My hope is that he will find a way to take these narrative lemons and make some lemonade. Nerf down or remove the worst of the imbalances. More Jutsu less Bijuu and leaves the fate, prophecy, and destiny stuff behind. Maybe do a little timeskip, a year or so, let Orochimaru or Sasuke or a Daymio play the villain on a smaller scale and let things end with that. The point is to refocus things to a more personal level with more conversations and less monologues.
My expectation though is that it will wrap up with this arc, for better or worse. Which I assume is going to end this year, but I assumed that last year too and this war arc is still going for the...what, 4th year?

I expect at least 20 chapters minimum before this whole war ends. I highly doubt that the manga will end before the year is out or even next year to tell you the truth. I had stopped reading it for a while because of my school and work schedules, as well as massive amounts of homework, but I picked it back up the last four months or so. I really want to say a major mind f*ck or two is coming. That's just my feeling. I want to lean toward some sort of time related jutsu. Don't ask me why I want to think that though because sometimes I don't even know why I thought of it that way.
My Hope: Manga End with a proper and great ending instead of just ending
My Expectations: A Great Show down between Naruto and Sasuke for the title of Hokage in presence of whole Konoha while Konoha cheering and respecting both of them.
