Can the Holy Knights oppose the Seven Sins?
As we have seen in the manga so far the seven deadly sins have a somewhat overwhelming amount of power. We have seen a number of holy knights fight yet so far the seven deadly sins have yet to be properly challenged by anyone at least when using their full powers. Lets look at this case by case.
The first proper holy knight we saw was gilthunder. He does not appear to have something equivalent to a sacred treasure, just a regular good weapon. When he fought meliodas meliodas had precisely nothing, he had his dragon sword although that one does not appear to have any special properties. Gilthunder got a single hit on meliodas although the manga did imply it was taken intentionally for meliodas to get information on the sins. In the end he got thrown away by diane. It didn't seem like gilthunder was at a huge disadvantage however if we consider meliodas was essentially unarmed it looks quite bad for gilthunder.
Then we had meliodas and diane vs the weird fangs. They were in charge of an important location and even as proper holy knights they were easily dispatched by diane and meliodas even though meliodas only had his dragon sword and diane was unarmed.
The next relevant moment would be the sins vs gaera. Gaera is supposed to be a well above average holy knight and actually held back 3 unarmed sins on her own easily. But then king came along and easily beat her with the main difference being him having a proper sacred treasure on him.
Then we had the byzel incidents. Gaera and jericho walk in with weapons comparable to sacred treasures and yet king is still able to easy dispatch them. The two of them were saved by helbram. Now helbram was an interesting case because he was the first to ever fight a sin who ever presented a problem. However many issues came with him as well. Initially it appeared as if king is actually insanely weak among the sins because helbram, even with the might of 20 holy knights and apparently even heindricksen behind him, was easily dealt with by diane and gideon. Heindricksen probably did not share all his power however whatever the scenario the difference in power between him and diane appeared quite clear at that stage. And the difference between king and diane is even more obvious.
Then we had the incident against gaera's demonified dad. We had king with his sacred treasure being about as useless as the other unarmed sins. Then to boot we had meliodas picking up an actual sword. It appeared to not be a very good sword however the implication in the manga was that the only reason meliodas did not win at that second with his blaze enchantment was that he didn't want to kill the knight. This is specially relevant if we consider the dawn roar, a supposedly competent unit of the holy knights, would have lost at least a member in defeating the demon. And then meliodas got an actual proper sword (probably not on par with the sacred treasures but still) and dealt with the demon in seconds. Would dawn roar be worth anything against meliodas? I doubt it. And of course then we had the bit about king's powers. According to gowther king is for whatever reason not using his true powers and in reality he should be able to easily defeat that demon with it.
So, taking everything in consideration, is there anyone in the kingdom that can fight the sins on even footing? Diane showed us the combined might of 20 holy knights including helbram and heindricksen was nothing to her. Meliodas showed us the dawn roar were not worth a damn against a sin with a decent weapon. King is supposed to have power to easily exceed the demon and if his true power is a match for diane then odds are even helbram would end up being fodder to him. Any thoughts on the matter?
Im pretty sure Hendricksen and Dreyfus are each as strong if not stronger than most of the sins individually, except Meliodas for obvious reasons. And I don't think you give Gilthunder enough credit. He did basically oneshot Mel, even if Mel purposely took the hit he still was seriously injured by a casual swing of Gilthunder. Just compare it with all the attacks he's taken from Geera or Ban, it has taken more than one attack to hurt him but Gil was able to do it quite easily.
I believe the original Holy Knights can oppose them, if they use demon blood too maybe they'll be able to oppose with the Sins with their sacred treasures. There could also exist a mean to create more powerful treasures.
Of course Meliodas isn't included, I don't see who can oppose him actually.
thanks to recent chapters, we now know that there are more ranks in holy knights besides apprentice, knight, and great holy knight, So most likely, the sins are going to start having more trouble since geera is shown to not really be a high ranked soldier
