    Toriko Timeline

While I was rereading the series after the end of Part 1, I decided to make a timeline since I’d never seen a comprehensive one anywhere. I think I expected Part 1 to be about a year long before I started, so I was really surprised when I realized that it was significantly longer. By estimating at a few points—mostly the time between arcs—I’m fairly sure that:
    1. Roughly a year passes from the beginning of the series until the start of the Mellow Cola arc
    2. Approximately 8-10 months pass between the Mellow Cola arc and Gourmet Santa chapter (this is 100% certain)
    3. Something like 4-6 months pass between the Gourmet Santa chapter and the Cooking Festival
    4. All told, Part 1 of Toriko is approximately 2-2.5 years long

Which means that there are a few small inconsistencies:

As for the estimates I had to make, there are two types: estimates that were possible to make based on context clues, and estimates that were impossible to make due to lack of info. For the first type, I simply wrote “Est.” before the arc’s duration, to indicate that the value is somewhat accurate but perhaps not exact. For the second type, I wrote “X” and chose a value I thought was reasonable (1 week). All told, there are actually very few points I had to use “X”—mostly during the time Toriko and Komatsu were building the Ehou Maki—so I don’t think it compromises the timeline too much.

Anyway, it's hard to summarize the timeline in words, so I made a "table" to make things clearer:
    Code:
                        Arc Duration Total Duration
    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Galala Gator 3 days 3 days
                        A few days 1 week
Rainbow Fruit Est. 1.5 weeks 2.5 weeks
                        Est. a week 3.5 weeks
    Puffer Whale 1 day
                        A few days 4.5 weeks
Regal Mammoth 2 days 1 month, 1 week
                        3 months 4 months, 1 week
BB Corn Est. 2 weeks 4 months, 3 weeks
                        Est. 1 day
Century Soup Est. 6.5 months 11 months, 1 week
                        X (Est. 1 week) 11 months, 2 weeks
Ozone Herb Est. 2 weeks 12 months
                        X (Est. 1 week) 12 months, 1 week
Melk Stardust Est. 2 weeks 12 months, 3 weeks
                        Est. a week 13 months

MARCH, APRIL OR MAY: Honey Prison

Mellow Cola Est. 2 months, 1 week 15 months, 1 week
    Surprise Apple 1 day
    Chiger Egg 1 day
    Shining Gourami 1 day
    Meteor Garlic 1 day

DECEMBER 24: Gourmet Santa 21-23 months

                        X (Est. 1 week) 21-23 months, 1 week
Madam Fish Est. 2 days 21-23 months, 1.5 weeks
                        X (Est. 1 week) 21-23 months, 2.5 weeks
King Vinegar Approx. 10 days 22-24 months
                        X (Est. 1 week) 22-24 months, 1 week
Dodurian Bomb Approx. 1 month 23-25 months, 1 week
                        X (Est. 1 week) 23-25 months, 2 weeks
Eco Nori 5 days 23-25 months, 2.5 weeks
                        X (Est. 1 week) 23-25 months, 3.5 weeks
Bubble Fruit Est. 3 weeks 24-26 months, 2.5 weeks
                        1 week 24-26 months, 3.5 weeks
    Four Beast 1 day
                        Approx. 3 weeks 25-27 months, 2.5 weeks
Cooking Festival Est. 1 month Approx. 26.5-28.5 months
Therefore, with a final total of 26.5-28.5 months, 2-2.5 years is my best estimate for Part 1. Approximately 2 years is the minimum amount of time that could have passed if all variable times (X) were lowered close to zero.

If you’re interested in how I came up with all the numbers, you can read all of my notes below:

    Galala Gator - Melk Stardust
    Spoiler show

    Mellow Cola - Gourmet Santa
    Spoiler show

    Madam Fish - Cooking Festival
    Spoiler show

...Phew! I did this mostly out of curiosity, but I decided to post it because I hope the fandom can use it somehow. If there's anything I got wrong or missed, let me know.

This is extremely userful and very well thought. Do you mind if I share it with my Toriko pals on tumblr?

Sure, go ahead! I thought about making it into an image somehow so that it could be shared more easily, but my notes ended up being so long that I decided text was best.

I was thinking on sharing the link, it even might attract some new members.

New members are always good! (I should probably join Tumblr one of these days, too...it seems like a good place to gush about the latest chapters.) But you can share it however you like.

    Re: Toriko Timeline

Toriko's planet is roughly 23 times as large as our planet. Wouldn't that factor in to how long a day on that planet is, and as such, a year?

    Re: Toriko Timeline

The year lasts the amount of time it takes the Earth to make a lap around the Sun, maybe the current size didn´t affect that time (or maybe Shimabu forgot to keep that in mind, which is quite plausible)

Either way, the year seems to still be composed of twelve months, as seen on the chapter when Monster Season starts on the Gourmet Prison area.

I didn't even think of that! Maybe it should, but there's no evidence for it that I know of. To add to what Cedre said: while I was keeping track of days and nights passing, there was never any sense of, "Wow, this day is waaaay too long/too short!" Also, clocks are based on the number twelve, and number of days in a month (around 30, like normal) seems to be backed up by the character's birth dates. It just seems like these things would have to be different if the Toriko world wasn't like ours when it comes to time measurement.

    Re: Toriko Timeline

It's possible that despite it's size, the Toriko planet just rotates faster to compensate. I looked into what would happen on our planet if it rotated 30 times faster, and I found something interesting.

"The Earth would expand, increasing the tektonic activity and volcanic action where plates subduct. The increase in spin would make the equator bulge more than it already does because of our current rotation rate. You would feel lighter as the centripetal force on you on the surface would increase the tendency to throw you off, moreso at the equator than at higher latitudes. The day would obviously be shorter. It would take less fuel to launch a rocket into orbit when launched in the direction of rotation. Why do you think most rockets launch to the East? The weather would get worse, or at least more to an extreme because the rotation of the Earth plays a part in weather patterns."

Not sure how accurate that is, but the extreme weather portion caught my eye. Toriko's planet DOES have extreme weather conditions.

    Re: Toriko Timeline

Holy crap that's really awesome. Do you think maybe Shimabu did some research on that or did he just create the world on a whim lmao Also, thanks Kotonoha21 for the timeline, I was really wondering about how much time has passed all together for a while now and seeing this is cool. So if Toriko and the others actually aged shouldn't he be around 30 years old by now lol (well, not that it matters much since they've got gourmet cells and will live for centuries if they don't get killed by something or someone else.)

    Re: Toriko Timeline

According to the fanbook, Toriko is currently 29 years old. And both him and Komatsu were 25 during the King Vinegar miniarc. Either Shimabu screwed up a bit there and the characters have been 25 since the manga begun (which would make sense considering their data profiles wherein both are 25 were released during the Regal Mammoth arc), or the time since the King Vinegar arc ntil the Part 1 ended was about two years (which I doubt, and the first possibility seems way more plausible)

    Re: Toriko Timeline

Thanks for the translation and sharing the info. It is indeed a lot of information that isn't shown on the manga series. All the timeline is very precious and it gives an idea on how old and how much time have passed since the beginning of Toriko's world. As time passes, the new age will be revealed more and more and the new generation (Toriko and his company, and those living in their time) will be playing an important role in it.

    That's great!
