    Re: What does ぺっ熊 mean?

    This is a guess, but it could be a colloquial version of ペコペコ熊, which would basically mean 'hungry bear'. To me, saying /paykokumah/ is a bit difficult, and it almost sounds natural to shorten it into /pay'kumah/. So, the translation:
    ぺっクマのあの引きつった顔ったらなかったぜ!わははーーっ!!
    ぺっ熊の = angry bear's
    引きつった顔 = face that's pulled tight = grimace/grin
    ったらなかったぜ! = is exactly like!

    I'm not absolutely sure of the last of those three parts. My instinct tells me it means "If anything looked like a hungry bear, it must've been your grimace! Wahaha!!"
    He's pointing out how much the face in frame 1 resembled a growling bear:
    Spoiler show

    I can't find a good image of a bear, but the dog's doing that warning growl.

    There is a fine line between bad and good, and an even finer line between good and great.

    I didn't even think about that it could be the big guy's face the one like a bear...
    I must be really tired.

    ぺっ熊のあの引きつった顔ったらなかったぜ。

    ったらなかったぜ=といったらなかった

    ~といったらない = 言葉に表せないほど~だ。とても~だ。

    ペっ熊:Pekkuma, a nickname? Just a reverse of 熊ッペ? I don't know...

    Can't beleive how scared and tense he (Pekkuma) looked.

    Or, starting something like, for example:
    Really, he (Pekkuma) looked so ...
    Oh Man, his face (Pekkuma's face) was/looked ...

    Re: What does ぺっ熊 mean?

    Well...a couple of minutes after reading this page (in the next chapter from where the previous image was taken)

    I received the notification of this new post...

    You were right, it's a nickname and it's the guy who gets scared.
    Now that we have a close up of him, well, we can even guess why the kids nicknamed him like that.
    His face can resemble that of a bear...and look at his mouth. The part inside among the three only teeth.
    It reminds me a bit of a "pe"...or, if this is stretching it a bit too far...look at his eyebrows!!

    I thought that Chiyozou could be Pekkuma, because he is big like a bear and has a bent face (maybe the mouth is a bit similar to a "pe").
    And after all, at the end of the previous chapter, the little guy he's carrying in his arms was riding on his shoulders, shouting "Pekkuma"
    two times (the little guy has a bit of ID). But...it comes out that it's the guy living near their place. Color me surprised...
