Not sure if Isayama kinda messed up or if he is implying something.
With the appearance of Geographia, we were introduced to locking away Memories, even before a major plot point told by Grisha was "Their Memories".
That's why I'm asking:
Coincidence, Screw Up/Unoriginality or Clue?
I would say it's just his way to say "Look, this character may die or is regretting his actions because it'll make him die faster".
We were all traumatized by all the clues and hints thrown at us for Reiner and
Bertho-, Berto-,BERT ! (I still don't know how to spell this name), I don't think that every single time someone remembered something, Geographia was implicated in it.
I would say coincidence and maybe unoriginality from the scanlations teams.
Well, with latest chapter that came where
Memories is certainly a mayor theme in the manga, that I've noticed recently.
The sudden introduction to Geographia might be because of the changed ending, or maybe she was meant to be there all along which I agree the most with, even if her apperance was never really forshadowed, besides the line of "Their memories".
I guess we'll have to wait undtil Geographia is properly introduced, and maybe she will explain what is going within these crazy walls, or maybe she is dead. Ugh.

It's an interesting thought but i also wouldn't read much into it, at least for now. but, oh god, if that turns out to be a thing, i'll be mindfricked o-o
could the walls get any more horrible
I allways thought that the way Eren got the mindless titans to attack
the Smiley titan was more a thought (friend/foe recognition) manipulation
than direct order or control over them.
So could it be that Eren's ability is the same as Geo's?
And that she worked together with Grisha to develop the serum
and her place might also be the one were Grisha went?
-seems likely to me.
Besides mind manipulation of that scale and size that's to be assumed
with Erwin's revelation would allow her to turn Grisha into a pawn for her use
(would explain why he left his family behind
without being a cold-blooded scientist or)?
So is this mind control as powerfull as mesmerizing abilities of
vampires seen in say True Blood or just a weaker more subtle tool
for memory manipulation?
For me it seems like Isayama started to change his project. Why? Reason is simple, after few chapters we have seen Sasha "revived" and joined their squad. So he prolly reviewed his artwork and decided to change it so the previous chapters must fit it.
