Re: Summer 2014 Anime Preview Guide

Looks like there are quite a few series that interest me on the way. I'll be checking out.

Akame ga Kill seems like a must watch.
    Hanamonogatari without question.
    Tokyo Esp looks interesting.
Tokyo Ghoul looks good too though the fact that it's Studio Pierrot concerns me more than a little.(They don't produce anime, they produce disappointment)

I'll probably watch Sword Art Online II as well, possibly. It's going to depend on what version of the series it ends up more similar too. The fantastic first half or the all around terrible second half.

Also have a hard time understanding why Space Dandy and Hamatora both got sequels. I guess people must have found something to like in those shows, but I can't see it.

Hamatora was legit quality. Its ending rather suggested that it was planned around being a 24 episode show because of that ending. Either way I thought its the type of psychological mystery detectiveish series that anime is missing.

Did you mean Aincrad and Alfheim Online from the first season? Second season will most likely just cover GGO, not two games like the first season.

Dandy was random but the latter episodes were better than the first ones IMO. For Hamatora, I don't know but I found it below average overall.

He is certainly talking about Aincrad for the first season. Idk about how it is in the LN but the first part was still way better than the 2nd one in the anime.

What anime is missing is Gintama, IMO.

I guess it's just that I think of all the amazing series that never got a sequel when something like Hamatora (which to be fair I only watched about 4 episodes of) which just struck me as highly forgettable gets one. Yet Hataraku Maou-sama and Tiger & Bunny get left out in the cold.

Aincrad is better than Alfheim in both, novel and anime, but in the novel Alfheim is much better, they skipped many good scenes in the anime. Ono of them in very important for a future volume of the novel by the way.

I mean, the first half of Sword Art Online anime was great and the following half was downright awful. I don't read the novels. So I don't really think about them in terms of the source material. I'm speaking purely about the anime on it's own merits(or lack thereof).

Basically if Sword Art Online II has that same legitimate drama that the first half had I'll love it. If it's filled with the forced melodrama of the second half I'm going to hate it. All the drama over dying was gone which just sucked the life out of the danger aspect. It tried to fill that void with the creepy comatose marriage plot line. Which on top of being all kinds of icky, just didn't make a lot of sense in terms of the setup.

Maybe that's it. I only watched until the Romero Zombie tribute and I did find much to like about it.

GGO has a good drama indeed, I think you'll like it.
