Also, both in that instance and in the ch 118 title it's the "Divine Path of the Asura", what about that bit? Like, "Divine path of vengeance" sounds off to me.
If Asura isn't a technique, what would you categorize it to be?
The same thing is present in Naruto with the different forms of Pain, the Rikudo.
Actually, we can settle this more easily than I expected. Looking at the RAW again, there are quotation marks around Asura no Shindou, which only happens for special moves.
I think that Irie was just incredibly superior and Akiba just collapsed... like Renji against Mitsuya for example.

I thought it was a state, because the speed and spin of Tokugawa's serves changed completely after activating it.
